9 Powerful Lessons I Learned When I Tweet My Articles on Twitter
A free way to market your article that you may be missing

As a writer, you should use Twitter to market your work, get reads, followers, and build relationships. I am not an expert marketer but I share my articles hundreds of times a month on Twitter.
I joined Twitter in October 2009. At first, I had no idea what I was doing. All I saw were random messages from people. Twitter is hard to see what everyone is tweeting since there are thousands of tweets every second.
Neil Patel estimates there are 6,000 tweets per second. This comes out to 350,000 tweets per minute, and 500 million tweets per day.
As a writer, I started to see different ways that I could use Twitter to benefit me. Once you understand a social media system, there are so many possibilities you can use these platforms.
When using Twitter, there are several benefits available that you may not be aware of. This article will cover some but not all of the following benefits:
1. Top writers are on Twitter
2. Your writing friends may be on Twitter
3. Many publications have their own Twitter profile
4. Share your writing
5. You have meaningful conversations with other writers
6. Complete strangers will contact you if you wrote an impactful article
7. Your views will increase
8. You can never tweet too little
9. Twitter is another way to find out what is trending
Let’s go into more detail.
1. Top writers are on Twitter
Many of the top writers are on Twitter. A few of them are Tim Denning, Matt Lillywhite, and Sean Kernan. There are others as well but I haven’t been fortunate to run across their page.
2. Your writing friends may be on Twitter
Surprisingly, many of your writing friends are on Twitter. I have connected with several writers who I consider friends and this list does not include everyone. Some of the writers are Stephen Dalton, Tee, Conscious Creative, James Carter, Daniella Mini, Toni Koraza, Dr Mehmet Yildiz, and many others.
3. Many publications have their own Twitter profile
Your favorite publication may be on Twitter. The benefit to this is the publication share recent articles they have published. A few publications even tag you as well.
Some of the publications that I am aware of that are on Twitter are The Ascent, Better Marketing, Illumination, 2 Minute Madness, and Publishous.
When these publications share your article, sometimes they tag you letting you know they shared it.
When they do this, you can also retweet the article to your contacts. This is a good way to get views on your article as well as from other Twitter followers. You will also be surprised by the number of writers in general who are on Twitter.
4. Share your articles
The next benefit to using Twitter is you can tweet your article. This is a good way to get more views. Some of your Medium followers will also like your tweet and some will retweet the article to their followers.
5. You have impactful conversations with other writers
With Medium writers, I have several conversations with them on articles I am writing, their articles, or other discussions. When you use Twitter, you connect with other writers that you may not already have a connection with. You will meet other writers who do not know you as a writer or even know you on other social media channels. It’s a great way to meet other writers.
6. Complete strangers will contact you if you wrote an impactful article
I have had a few people connect with me on Twitter when I wrote articles about scams that I came across. They thanked me for making them aware of the scam they came close to becoming apart of where they could have taken $100,000 from complete strangers.
There may be other articles that you write that people who are not part of Medium will come across. You could impact their life because of the information you wrote.
7. Your views will increase
More people will come across your article, so your views will increase. Whether you get paid is a different story if they are not part of the Medium partner program. The main point is you will get more views and possibly reads on your story.

8. You can never tweet too little
If you tweet once or twice, then you are probably tweeting too little. As I mentioned earlier, there are millions of tweets that go out each day. I think the more you tweet, you’ll reach a larger audience rather than if you only tweet once or twice a day. Tweet as much as you can, you won’t break Twitter.
9. Twitter is another way to find out what is trending
There will be some days when you don’t know what you want to write. When you use Twitter, you can get an idea on what is the hot topic of the day. The hot topic could be the article you’ll write that day. I have used this a few times when I wanted to write about a trending topic.
Three tips you should do now
1. Create a Twitter page. Set up your page since it is simple and easy to do.
2. Share your writing on Twitter. Once you have created your page or if you already have a Twitter page, share your articles. Make sure you use the appropriate tags such as #writer, #writers, #writing, and others. Sometimes it’s good to use other tags depending on your article topic.
3. Connect with me. This is not exactly a tip, but connect with me. You will see that I tweet in the morning, afternoon, evening, and sometimes in the late evening to early morning.
You’ll find a lot more benefits with Twitter than you ever imagined.
