9 Lessons Learned From Living Life in My 20s

Each year of wisdom on Earths leads us to more liberation in our life

I have settled nicely into my 30s now. I know many don’t look forward to aging, because it puts us closer to the end than the beginning of our life, but I have felt more confident and comfortable in my own skin.

The following is a list of nine lessons I learned from living life in my 20s:

1. Make time for those who are important to you

This should be easier said than done, but sadly we get caught up with work and our mission for success that we miss the important things that are passing us by. Family and friends won’t always be there. Take the time you have now with the ones you love and cherish it.

2. Take care of yourself

We spend the majority of our youth abusing our bodies. Whether we are eating processed foods or using products that contain harmful chemicals, you need to take care of your body. It is your vessel and you ARE the captain!

Go for annual physicals, drink plenty of fluids, get regular exercise, and have healthy eating habits. I’m not saying give up pastries forever! You can consume unhealthy products in moderation. Just know that if you take care of yourself now, your older self will thank you later.

3. It’s OK to take a break

Everyone needs a break, and it’s OK to admit that. If you’re burned out, you will be no good to your employer or the people you care about. We are in a society that is geared to be constantly connected. Whether it is with a cellphone, text, social media, or email, there is always a way for someone to get a hold of us.

It’s pretty surprising how quickly life will pass you by if you spend the majority of it looking at a screen. Take steps to take time to “shut down.” Start with an hour a day, work to an evening, or take a whole day. I guarantee you that you will feel recharged.

4. Speak up

As a child, I was pretty obedient to the rules that were put before me. From that obedience came a sense that I didn’t feel that it would be appropriate to question or challenge something if I didn’t agree with it.

While I still believe it is highly important to respect others, I have learned that you can still be considerate to someone and still get your own point across.

5. Find your passion and purpose

Never worry about being late to the game when it comes to figuring out who you are or what it is you want to do with your life! I believe everyone has a purpose.

You do not need to be worried about making your purpose your day job. Sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. If you have a day job as a banker or laborer and find passion and purpose in writing, volunteering or building something, do those things on the side.

6. Continue on a path of professional enlightenment

I’ve spent the end of my 20s diving deep into professional development. It’s been almost 10 years since I have graduated from college and a lot happens within the industry I studied. Whatever your calling or profession is in life, continue to dive more into educating yourself about your vocation.

7. Give back

One of the greatest moments of enlightenment for me was that I felt more fulfilled when I gave back. I also realized you don’t have to have money to be charitable.

We are rich with our thought, time, and sentiment. Sometimes people just need a little extra support when they are going through a rough time.

8. Travel

There’s something truly special about traveling and learning about history and culture. It allows for growth, development, and enlightenment.

9. At some point there is an end

You have an expiration date. With youth, there is a sense of immortality, but the truth is that the moment we are born, we are dying. So take this beautiful gift of life and time you have and live it to the fullest!
