9 Grounding Methods to Heal the Root Chakra
Let go of fear and guilt with ease.

In my energy healing work, I find most people with blockages primarily in their first three chakras. Here, worthy souls get stuck in the lowest vibrational energies. So much power and potential are lost, and often the root chakra is the holding pattern.
While love is one of the highest vibrational energies, the blocked root chakra reflects the lowest energies of fear and guilt. It pains me to see my fellow travelers bound in feelings of unworthiness, doubt, and shame.
If you feel afraid, especially lacking confidence in life’s basics and survival, your root chakra needs attention. If the past is haunting you and you feel unworthy, your root chakra needs attention.
Good news! Simple grounding exercises can clear and heal your root chakra. Here are nine things you can try.
1. Walk barefoot on the earth
Slipping off my shoes and walking in the sand or grass is one of my favorite ways to ground. The energies of the earth merge and morph into my body as if we were one. As with most grounding methods, visualization is essential. See the earth’s energy flowing into you.
2. Visual vines
Sitting in a chair, close your eyes, with your feet planted on the floor. Again, we will call upon your imagination. When I say “planted on the floor,” I mean picture your feet as seeds, placed into the earth. From those seeds grow vines that wrap around and hug your legs. Draw upon this energy.
3. Sound and light
I wrote before about the Solfeggio Scale and its power to specifically target each chakra. There are many YouTube videos helpful here, but I like this one for the root chakra. It features 396 Hz sounds, along with a swirling red light. The color red is associated with this chakra and aids in the healing process.
4. 5–4–3–2–1
When fear and anxiety overcome you, note five things you can see, four things you can hear, three things you can touch, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. This technique puts you in the moment and grounds you.
5. Grounding mat
You can pick these up from Amazon or a similar retailer. There are mats to put your feet onto, as well as pillowcases, sheets, and other items. They plug into the grounding wire of an electric port.
6. Mudra
Hold your thumb and index finger together on each hand, with your other fingers loose and open to the side. Turn your palms toward the sky. It may help to repeat a mantra, such as, “I safe. I am worthy.”
7. Soak in water
Our bodies and brain are mostly water. The water within us conducts our vital energy. If you can’t get into a pool or body of water or a bathtub, you can fill a bowl with water and soak your hands or feet.
8, Healing crystals
Here again, the color red comes into action. Red jasper, red tiger’s eye, or garnet are useful crystals for root chakra clearing. Hold the crystal and focus on its energies. It may help to move the crystal slowly over your body.
9. Essential oils
Rosewood, myrrh, and thyme are great at bringing you back into sync with the earth. Putting drops into a diffuser works, but I favor putting a little bit on my upper lip and having that constant and pure reinforcement.
These are quick and easy methods to overcome fear and guilt. You deserve to live life wholly and full of energy. You could see an energy healer or have a Reiki session, but I’m confident that you’ll find relief through the techniques above.
