It’s already widely known that the only way to get paid market rates for your skills as a permanent employee in the software engineering industry is to change jobs regularly.

Staying with an employer, no matter how much they thank you for your hard work and loyalty, will always erode your pay with respect to everyone else as they simply don’t increase your pay enough every year.

It’s even worse now.
