Not Mere Muse, But Woman

Wonder Woman aside, most real women are wonders. They are pillars of strength burdened with much more than an average man could ever endure. I am in constant awe of them. Bewildered how they were ever considered the weaker sex.
In November of 2015, these sentiments sparked a series of four poems celebrating the many sides of my wife. A new mother, an accomplished executive, a loving wife, a daughter, sister, friend, the list goes on.
At the time, I had only begun writing on Medium and had not posted much of my poetry (that ship has long since sailed). They were also very personal to me and so I only shared them with my wife (later, I printed them on a scarf for her when I won a Litographs writing prompt).
The poems stuck with me, though. About year later — after drawing had become another passion for me — they would inspire me to pool the talents of some of Medium’s finest poets in a series of poems titled Women: Power. The new series would feature my artwork and the wondeful words of BHD, Dewi, marika bianca, Meg, Orisirisi, Rachel B. Baxter, pamela star, Tamyka Bell, Tasneem Kagalwalla, Tre L. Loadholt, Violet and Wild Flower.
Finally up for publishing the original series—with wife’s permission, of course (they are hers)—it seemed fitting to include the style of artwork that was featured in the previous series. Completing the circle.
Here are just four sides of one wonder of a woman:
