In Carson City, eNVy, the very unfit mayor with greying roots and in dire need of a mani/pedi is . . .(giving away her jewelry)(signing a petition to stop the (erection)(election) of (Dennis Hof). Oops, a typo, Dennis died two years ago at the Love Ranch, but he won the election by a (landslide)(mudslide)(nearly 70%).
Did Lori Bagwell win by that much?
Less than 20% of eligible voters voted in the mayoral election. a little below normal turnout for a mayoral election, even thought it is the state capital.
lori had ‘name recognition’. state worker, bean counter with the dept. of corrections (i’ve heard she’s pretty good at cartwheels); on the board of several local charities; long-time resident of carson city; die hard retrümplican, (but isn’t the position of mayor non-partisan?), drives a gas guzzler; (didn’t) recycle glass, plastic and metal (blue dumpsters) as of 10/10/21; on the board of supervisors, one or two terms, where she did not give a sh*t about development in the historic district, voting in favor of developers . . .
I voted for the Hookah Lounge Guy — he’s a (rock star) (a person who cares about the homeless) and (the citizens of Carson City), not the special interests of California ranchers who want to . . .
. . . erect a slaughterhouse in my neighborhood.

I have 3 capital cities and can really only comment on 1.
First, there’s Canberra, the Federal Capital of Australia. Then there’s Brisbane, the State capital of Queensland.
I don’t know enough about Aussie politics yet to speak knowledgeably. I know that I don’t like the current mob in power in Canberra, but I do like our State Premier.
My third is Wellington, Capital of New Zealand. And as usual Jacinda is doing an awesome job. She does have some detractors, but her support is wide and deep. -a.o.
Oh damn, I miss Manila (Philippines) so much. I haven’t paid the city a visit since as far as late 2014, so that’s running 8 years already, and with the damn virus, I’ll probably not be able to visit anytime soon unless I somehow get invited to some event there.
What’s going on in Manila as of late?
Based on our local news reports, COVID is on the rise all over again, thanks in part to how loose the protocols were during Christmas season, allowing people to travel around practically unhindered. And with us Filipinos generally being an undisciplined (or should I say, anti-discipline) people, the inevitable happened, and we’re back to how it was during the early parts of 2020. -s.v.

thanks, you two. i’m sad that things are not going well in the southern hemisphere as well. prolly fire season, enit? and with tonga blowing up, it’s so very sad. a few months ago, i read rutger bregman’s book — this first chapter was about how he tracked down the real life “lord of the flies” to find that a shipwreck of students on tonga in the 1960’s lead to a peaceful co-existence for 15 months before they were rescued. unlike hte classic “lord of the flies”. so the next bit of news from there, i heard from you amari, the eruption and tonga had been covid free before that. -a.j.
this is sad. the last place i worked, there were quite a few filipinos. i got fired from there in 2008. that was a long time ago. we had good times when we got to talk to each other, it was mostly soulless mindless labor.

Not entirely sure what’s going on in the city, or the state. I think we are swamped with the O at the mo, but that should hopefully die down soon. Cali has sent out more stimulus checks. Now tax season is rolling around so more money. It’s a big rich state with good weather and Hollywood and a good governor and great congresspeople and we are mostly vaxxed and masked. What more could anyone ask?
At the federal level, well things are always hopping in DC. But you already know that if you watch the news. -g.s.

Davi Mai is my pen name that I self-publish all my crappy writing under. So that family and colleagues don’t find it.
I used to be Davi Mai on scrib too, but when I had a little tantrum and left, I came back and realised you can’t use the same name again. Amari Omehia is an MC in my first novella. -a.o.
I’m fascinated by shipwreck stories, and our neck of the woods (the South Pacific) has plenty. Shackelton’s crew on Elephant Island might be the most famous.
But my favourite is the story of the General Grant. The wreck has yet to be discovered, It has gold on board worth around USD$4 million in today’s money. (It would cost more than that to recover it, I suppose)
Anyway, the survivors spent time on THREE islands, over the course of the whole event. It wrecked on the Auckland Islands, 13th May 1866, and the last survivors were picked up from Enderby Island on 21st November 1867. Yep, 18 months later!
Fark! Can you imagine that? This was a time when men were men, and women were men too, probably. Nowadays, we’d realise there’s no wifi and just give up and let the sea take us.
