80’s
#24 of 31 days of May SCWBI Challenge – A Haiku for you

Puffy hair big flair
Highway to the danger zone
Gonna cut footloose
I was born in 79. So obviously, I grew up as a kid in the 80’s. I remember my older brother and sister watching Top Gun and Footloose.
My younger brother and I weren’t allowed to watch with them, but we could hear the music and sounds from outside or in bed when we were supposed to be sleeping.
Those days mixed tapes were made up from songs we would record from the radio. It was a real skill to click record on the cassette player at the precise moment. Secretly yelling at the announcers to shut up so their voices didn’t ruin the opening riffs.
Cassettes, adding that extra amusement as a kid when we could make the music sound like chipmunks.
While I prefer rock vs pop, I still can’t help having a dance when I hear an 80’s tune.

A picture of my close friends heading to an 80’s dress up party many years ago. Friends I am lucky to still have in my life.
The family I got to choose.
My mate in the middle is on roller skates. Needless to say, there were multiple resulting falls and laughs. I may or may not have been at fault!
Other prompted play
Saloni Joshi’s sensory high-tea with nature
Bob Jasper’s haiku shining a light on a new day in appreciation of a tree
Rasheed Hooda shares a blissful roam in the woods
If I have missed any others that have been prompted by this challenge in the last day, I apologise…please give me a nudge and I will add them to the next prompt. At the conclusion of the challenge I will create an index to all the rippling treasures this prompt uncovered.
“80’s” – today’s prompt from the 31 days of May challenge being run by SCBWI West (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) …if anybody feels like participating, join in as you please.
