Everyone chases one thing — Happiness.
We seek happiness in different ways, either by winning a lottery, getting a brand new car or from a significant other.
One of the things that make me happy is listening to good music. Their is so much joy I derive just listening to good music. But I’m sure you have other ways to make yourself happy.
So what’s happiness all about? Well, the dictionary mentioned happiness to be “The emotion of being happy”. But I’d like to think of happiness as a state of mind. A feeling of contentment combined with the sense that one’s life is worthwhile and good.
Is happiness attainable or is it just an illusion? Happiness is attainable and everyone could be happy. It’s just a matter of choice. You could either choose to be happy or choose to be miserable.
Trust me they are music that are depressing and sad. I chose to avoid them. because I know how such music could make me feel.
But if you choose to be happy then they are certain daily actions to take or rather daily habits you need to cultivate in order to be happy. Even though happiness differs from one person to another, they are habits or states of mind that happy people have in common.
1. Happy People Are Thankful People.
Gratitude is the best attitude. Must times we are so caught up in our daily duties, we forget to be grateful for the little things of life.
From the moment you wake up, take a deep breath and just appreciate the fact that you’re alive to see a new day. Be grateful for the cup of coffee or cup of tea you have every morning and the short conversations you have with your family before leaving the house. Be grateful for the job you have now and the evening meal you enjoy with your family after the working day is over.
They are just so many things to be grateful for; your health, your family, your parents, your friends, the home you live in, the pets you have and the flowers you have in your garden.
Happy people recognize what they have presently in their life, they see the abundance around them and they are grateful for it.
2. Happy People Maintain An Optimistic View Of Life.
Happy people would always see the good side in every situation. When bad things happen to them they don’t complain about it. They view bad situations as lessons to be learned.
They understand that bad situation could teach them something and expand their understanding of themselves.
Rather than being pessimistic and complaining, they force themselves to see the facts and eventually find out that things are not as bad as they seem.
3. Happy People Take Care Of Themselves First.
To me this one is a very important. On an aeroplane, there is an instruction every passenger must follow. In case of an emergence, it is mentioned that you need to put on a mask on yourself first, before helping people around you.
Happy people take care of themselves first, so that they could help others in need. You just can’t help other people when you’re depressed or stressed or unhappy or financially down.
To me, it makes no sense trying to make people happy when your not happy yourself. It’s not selfishness for you to fix your problems first before helping to fix other people’s problems.
4. Happy People Make Their Health A Priority
Happy people make their health a priority and so they schedule regular exercise and follow through on it because they know it pays hugely for their mood.
5. Happy People Smile A Lot.
Happy people like to put themselves in situations that will make them smile. Like going through old photos, inviting a special person for dinner, playing with a baby, etc.
6. Happy People Roll With Happy people.
A happy people surround themselves with people who add positive benefits to their life and this persons adds positive benefits in the lives of others as well.
Happiness is contagious and if you can make more friends that give out such positive benefits then you become happy as well.
There is just no fun in hanging out with toxic people.
7. Happy People Learn To Forgive.
Happy people don’t hold grudges. Forgiving and forgetting are very important if you want to be happy. Holding unto grudges, anger, revenge and resentment harms us more than our wrong doers.
For anyone to flourish in happiness you just have to let those negative feelings go. Learn to forgive yourself and that of others.
8. Spend Money On Experiences.
Experiences have a lasting place in our memories than materialistic things. So spend money on vacations you’ve always wanted to go with your love ones. Visit an art gallery or go to a concert, learn a new skill and value those experience because they are more likely to make you happy than materialistic things.
