The Double Face of the Irrational in Life

A Reflection on Meaninglessness and Naivety

The irrational in life appears, in our considerations, in a double aspect: the irrational as a blind dynamism that refuses any hierarchy of values and the irrational as a reality in which assimilation you live naively, satisfied and balanced.

This double acceptance of the irrational explains why we can say that life has no meaning, it being irrational in its essence, as well as why we support the possibility of salvation only through the naive experience of the irrational.

The unconscious approach to the irrational essence of life keeps you in a state of organic balance, because your forms of activity and manifestation are the forms of life.

Everything you do springs from the core of life, from an obscure vital productivity.

The naive experience of the irrational places you in the substantial immanence of life.

Therefore, naivety is a direct expression of the irrational.

In naivety, individuation does not represent a principle of tragedy, because in naivety the individual is not separated from the world, but is organically assimilated to the irrational flow of existence.

The windings of this flow can be very complicated; when you live in them, you do not suffer because of them, because the drama is distributed over the entire sphere of life and is not reflected in consciousness, you do not suffer a unique, individual and excruciating drama outside the world; do not try the dualism that isolates man in the world because of the hypertrophy of consciousness.

Through awareness, reflexivity and internalization, you overcome the irrational; but only to reveal itself to you in a prominent disconcerting way.

Because this overcoming can only be achieved in thought; through the biological in us we are no less part of irrationality in general.

And when this biological becomes uncertain, problematic, of an unstable balance, this only happens in order to expose us even more to the irrational, as blind dynamism, regardless of any theology and any hierarchy of values.

Man is constituted in such a way that he demands at every moment a hierarchy of values, a scale of values and a sum of criteria.

Faced with the phenomenon of the irrationality of life, of its evolution without any purpose, which makes life a chaotic vanguard of overflowing and uncrystallizable forms, the demand for a hierarchy of values is a simple demand.

And then the revolt of consciousness against life is born, the revolt of man detached from life against the irrational, to which the revolt, life responds to man: follow me and renounce consciousness, the principle of separability and, dragged along in the flow of the irrational, you will stop looking for a meaning where there is none.
