What Can Help You Evaluate Your Monthly Writing Progress?

Here I go again singing praises about the awesome list feature!

I know a lot of my readers have seen the stories I’ve written, singing the praises of using the Medium “list” feature.

I can’t help it, but I use this feature for all kinds of reasons. It’s so damn handy, and makes it easy to keep things organized in whatever insane way that you want to.

I believe my newest way to use the list feature will help me be able to evaluate my writing progress, on a month-to-month basis.

I came to this conclusion, when I decided to compile all the stories I published in January, and put them into one list. I had intentions of going through the list and doing some cherry picking; taking out the stories I wanted to keep promoting.

It took me a while to pop all 65 titles into the list I created, so by the time I was done, I didn’t feel like any cherry picking. I was too pooped, so I’ll probably do it sometime in the future.

But just in case, feel free to check out the list I created. You’ll find all the stuff I wrote, last month when I was high on the idea that: “It’s the new year and I can do anything!”

Here’s the list of 65 stories that I call:

JUMP TO IT! — JANUARY 2022 This list contains all the Justiss Goode stories published in the first month of 2022. Now, if I need to refer back to something that I wrote in that particular month, I have an easy reference.

Clearly, this is a great way to watch what you’ve been writing and not only monitor, but evaluate your progress.

Stop forgetting the memorable stories you write each month

Creating a list of stories for a specific month can be a way to remind you about memorable stories that you wrote early in the month.

Haven’t you ever been looking through your titles for something in particular and stumbled onto a story you forgot you wrote? I have. Sometimes I may have written it in the same month, but that was 10 or 20 stories ago.

That’s why I plan to create a similar list for the month of February, and even beyond, otherwise, I could forget about the first two stories I published in February and somehow stop promoting them.

For instance:

The story you’re currently reading is one of the first two stories I published in February 2022. The other story is titled: Tag Team Stories: My Newest Way to Promote the Stories I Write!

The tag team story is super interesting. It provides some insight on a helpful practice that could benefit other writers and maybe even earn them more views and income.

But after a day or so, nobody may ever see the story again. The same is true for the story you’re reading.

As far as I’m concerned, both these stories are helpful and should not be overlooked by the community. That’s why I want to do what I can to keep them alive. I can’t do that if I forgot I even wrote them.

But having a list of what you wrote for any given month will allow you to look over the list and recall the stories you definitely want to be sure to continue promoting.

Final Thoughts

Being able to click one link and pull up all the stories you published in the course of one month can really come in handy.

If you’re not already used to creating different lists, this could be a good reason to start doing it, because there are lots of great reasons why you should.
