7 Ways to Keep Hope Alive No Matter What Life Throws At You
When life throws you a curveball, it can be difficult to keep hope alive. But that is exactly what you need to do to get through tough times.
Even though you might sometimes feel like you’ve been singled out to have such bad luck or hard times, I can assure you that everyone has their own cross to bear.
“Be kind; everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” — John Watson
Sometimes we look at the rich and famous who, on the surface, seem to have it all. However, even they have to survive tough times. Here are some examples:
- Pamela Anderson, one of the biggest stars of the 1990s, suffered from financial difficulties. She had to sell her homes in Sydney and Malibu to pay what she owed in US taxes.
- Mike Tyson, boxing world champion, spent all his money and ended up in jail a few times.
- Britney Spears suffered a mental breakdown in 2007 and was declared incompetent to manage her own money and affairs. She has since been released from her 13-year conservatorship.
- Popstar Michael Jackson was alleged to be $400 million in debt and battling drug addiction when he unexpectedly died in 2009.
- Bill Cosby served 3 years in prison for a sexual assault conviction later overturned by the highest court in Pennsylvania.
I could go on and on with further examples, but you can clearly see that those who seem to “have it all” are not immune from having their own battles to fight.
Everyone’s life has its ups and downs. Therefore it’s important to remember that you are not alone. In fact, it is part of the human experience and the game of life. But it can seem like a very hopeless situation when your’re down and in the midst of it.
I’d like to convince you today that there’s always hope, and you will come out the other side. Even if you can’t possibly see a way out from where you are today, there is a way out. Things will improve.
I was once married to an alcoholic. I loved him very much, but he made my life a living hell. He never physically abused me, but the mental abuse was intolerable. I remember sitting down on my kitchen stairs and sobbing because I was trapped in a marriage to an alcoholic, and I saw no way out. I didn’t know how I could ever leave him or manage financially. Fast forward 20 years, and I am now happily remarried.
At another time in my life, my parents died within 6 weeks, and my sister and I had to sell our family home. It was a grief-laden time for me. I didn’t think I’d ever get over my sadness from the perspective I had then, but I did. I still miss my parents, but I now savor the happy memories, and I’m not overcome by grief.
No matter how difficult life gets, it is essential to remember that hope is still alive. Hope is what gives you the strength to keep going when things are tough. Hope is what helps you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hope is what reminds you that better days are ahead. So never give up hope, no matter how tough things get.
When everything looks very dark, remember that there is always a little spark of hope somewhere in that darkness. It might be so tiny that it’s nothing more than a little glimmer of light. Focus on that little glimmer of light and know that you WILL get through this and somehow come out the other side. You don’t have to have all the answers; you don’t have to know HOW. Just trust that it WILL get better.
Here are seven ways to keep hope alive no matter what life throws at you:
- Remind yourself of times in the past when you’ve overcome big obstacles. When you’re feeling down, it is essential to remind yourself of your past successes. This will help you see that you have overcome difficult situations before and that you can do it again.
- Look to the future. Hope is all about looking to the future. When you focus on the future, it can help you see that things will eventually get better. Make plans in the future and always see that there IS a future for you, no matter how bad things might seem now.
- Be positive. It is essential to remain positive during difficult times. This may be difficult, but it is important to remember that your thoughts and attitude can influence your situation. You create your reality with your thinking, so the sooner you can change your thinking, the faster your situation will change for the better.
- Set goals. When you have something to strive for, it can help you maintain hope. Set small goals that you can realistically achieve. This will help you see that you’re making progress and better days are ahead.
- Reach out to and help others: Hope is contagious. When you reach out to others going through tough times, it can help you maintain hope. When you help others, it can make you feel better about your own situation. Helping others also reminds you that you’re not alone in your struggles.
- Be grateful. It’s essential to be grateful for what you have, even when things are tough. This attitude of gratitude can help you maintain hope.
- Practice self-care. Make sure to get enough rest, eat healthy, and exercise. These things will help you physically and mentally. When you take care of yourself, it can help you feel better and keep hope alive.
I hope that this helps you see that there are ways to keep hope alive, no matter what life throws at you. Hope is a powerful thing. Hope can give you the strength to keep going when things are tough. Hope can help you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hope is what reminds you that better days are ahead. So never give up hope!
