7 Traits of Highly Creative People That Differentiate Them From Everyone
These traits tell you a truly creative person, and you must embrace yourself
Being a creative person means being a different person. When you’re creative, your life is different. There are things that you do that people usually don’t do, and there are things that people do that you don’t do.
Every creative person has a different soul because creativity happens typically on another plain mentally and spiritually.
Creators are a connection between the seen and the unseen world. By that, they possess some weird traits, and these are as follows;
They like to be on their own
Since creation happens between the seen and the unseen plains, and it’s done best in solitude and silence, every creative person likes to be on their own and has no problem with it.
They do this to put themselves on the verge of receiving the message. Every creator doesn’t like it when receiving information and can’t get it.
This makes solitude the number one priority. Although they may be in the midst of friends and family, they’re often in isolation. A typical example is writers, musicians, tech wizards.
They talk to themselves a lot
Like mad people, creatives talk to themselves a lot. I do it most of the time, not deliberately. I often don’t get to know it when I’m doing it. I only know it when done. And this trait is typical with creatives.
You’ll find them speaking with nobody around them. You may think they’re insane. But it’s the spirit talking through them and delivering a message to them.
According to science, people who talk to themselves are geniuses. Psychologist-researcher Gary Lupyan conducted an experiment where 20 volunteers were shown objects in a supermarket and were asked to remember them. Then, he told half of them to repeat objects like banana, and the other half remained silent. The result showed that self-directed speech aided people to find the objects faster, by 50 to 100 milliseconds, compared to the silent ones.
I sometimes write stuff when I have spoken to myself, and the message seems powerful, and I feel like others need to know about it.
“People who talk to themselves are geniuses.”
They’re psychopath
You find the behavior of most creatives to be weird, right? That’s because creatives don’t care what people think and say about them. They live a free life, knowing apart from God, the universe, they’re in charge of what they do. So they freely do what they want, always acting like nothing is at stake.
For example, whenever I have seen Stephen King, I see the fundamental nature. The way he conducts and expresses himself. This man doesn’t give a damn about anyone. The same with almost every creative I know.
They don’t take things seriously
While other people are always serious with life, creatives are relaxed. They’re all the time settled, not caring much about life.
They’re all the time in surrender mode. They give up power, allow the universe to take control, and always appear unserious.
But, naturally, they’re the ones serious with life but don’t show it, and with this attitude, people find them not serious with things.
They’re thieves
Every creative is a thief. I am a thief, and if you are creative, you know you’re, too.
Our relentless desire to learn and grow makes us go about stealing people’s styles and how they go about crafting their masterpieces. This is typical of the writing world. Whenever I’m reading another writer’s work, I’m always looking to steal something. It could be the mode of expression or the style by which the piece is crafted. And it’s all towards ensuring that I get my work done correctly.
A great book was written by Austin Kleon titled Steal like an artist. In it, the author talks about nothing being original, and we must school ourselves through the works of others to discover our path. And that’s what we do. We’re always stealing something from the next person we feel is better than us creatively.
They’re quick-tempered
I can’t say this is related to all creatives, but most of them I know have a problem with their temperance. The reason is that because they’re always working in a specific time frame, it’s hard for them to be patient when they feel they’re being delayed by someone or something with what they’re doing.
I have a hard time being patient. I have zero tolerance for nonsense, and in as much as it’s a weakness, it’s a strength too. It makes me get things done without procrastinating.
They are generous people and love serving others
The purpose of creation and being a creator is to serve. All creatives that I know are kind to people. A creative person doesn’t mind giving up what they’re doing to help someone.
The reason? It nourishes their soul and makes them feel connected to their inner genius. Whenever I’ve lent a helping hand to someone, I become happy and alive, bolstering my creativity. I feel connected to my soul. And most creative are like this. Although they’re crazy quick-tempered, most times they’re lovely and will do everything to help someone.
Bonus…
All creatives are perfectionists. Even though we preach to others not to always aim to get things perfect, we’re perfectionists ourselves.
I’ve never seen a creative who likes shoddy work. On the contrary, every creative wants to ensure what they’ve created is excellent before getting it to the world.
Ask them why? They’ll tell you they have a reputation to protect.
But, what they mean by that isn’t reputation. It’s ego. They always want to make sure what they put out there is an all-time high in quality. So, they’re always working hard to get it right before releasing their work to the world. I do it, and every creative does it. Ernest Hemingway is a typical example of this where when he writes something, he spends a lot of time editing it because he wants to make it perfect.
Other things to know
When people associate us with these traits as creatives, we turn to take them as weaknesses because of societal conditioning.
But, in reality, they aren’t. Instead, they’re strengths and what differentiates us from other persons.
So, instead of hating yourself when you discover some of these traits, embrace them and know that you’re special and made to bring things from the unseen world to the seen.
Having these traits isn’t a weakness. On the contrary, they’re the creative’s quality, and if you have them, you should be thankful.
Accept yourself and harness that power within you to give the world the best of creativity and innovation.
You aren’t weird.
You’re a chosen.
