While we want to believe that people are going much deeper than the external when it comes to consuming content, this isn’t the case. People are regularly making a determination based on headlines, book covers, and trailers.

I’ve been writing online for years, and I never realized that headlines mattered so much. I thought it was better to be straight-forward and to the point with my headlines. Just tell people what the article is about, and they can decide if it’s right for them or not. I don’t need to sell people on the headline, I’ve thought to myself, when my story will sell them on its quality and value.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. It’s while I’ve been writing on this platform and where I’ve written over a couple of hundred articles over the past year that I’ve realized the importance of headlines. My top performing articles had great headlines.
