7 steps That Will Make You Rich
(or at least will save you from being unemployed)
If you need to start to look for a job at the time of war and economic crisis, from the very beginning you need a lot of patience but don’t forget — the impossible is nothing!

- Before you start, you should decide on the main goals and reasons why you’re changing the job. Rising through the ranks, higher salary, changing the type of the company (unicorn, small firm, huge corp, etc), switching subtype of your role (social media marketing, digital marketing, paid media, product marketing, marketing operations).
- When you’re done with step 1, prepare a google sheet or dashboard in Notion with the following columns: Companies to apply, Role, Applied, Unfortunately (for the company) not accepted, Interviewing stage. In the first column, you can have like 3 colors to mention Startups, small companies, and corporations. If relocating is an option for you, there should be an additional column — Location, where you can put the city or remote.
- High time to update your CV and LinkedIn. Create a Cover letter and portfolio, prepare for technical interviews on LeetCode or test yourself with design challenges. The last steps are completely up to you and the role you will be trying to apply.
- Stop relying on luck and read https://workforfang.com created by Google and Facebook workers from Ukraine. It’s a step-by-step guide on how to land a dream job at tech companies such as Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, and Google. Even though my goal was not about those tech giants, there is plenty of useful advice from How to prepare for an interview to How to negotiate the salary. That guide helped me a lot :)

5. Remember all your friends and if they are working in the companies which are on your wish list, ask them to recommend you and get the employee referral.
6. Start to apply. Go to the website of the companies from the list. Search for We are hiring or Jobs tab. Search for an appropriate role. If there is one, you’re already lucky. Apply using all the materials prepared in step 3. After that:
- go to the Linkedin search for the company you have just applied
- click See all employees on LinkedIn
- using filters look for recruiters or talent acquisition managers from this company
- write the message, one of the examples is here:
Dear Alex,
I’m
with 5+ years of experience. Just have applied to the position on the website. I believe my skills and experience might be the perfect match for . So if you have time, reach out to me!
Best regards,
7. Now you need a little dose of patience. Oops, not that little. Some recruiters will answer after 2–3–4 weeks and some — after 2 months. That’s normal. And while waiting prepare your pitch and answers for pre-screen and screen interviews.

Now you’re 7 steps closer to being rich or at least having the job :)
