7 Songs Capable of Recharging You to Keep Going After Your Dreams When You Feel Unmotivated
They’ve been my go-to songs for motivation when the going gets tough
Music, just like words, is an integral part of our lives. They tend to empower us when we hear them.
A song can make you happy when you’re feeling sad. But, it can make you cry too when it hits you due to the memories it could bring.
The legendary Bob Marley once said, “one good thing about music when it hits you; you feel no pain.” And he was right. But, at times, there are some songs when they hit you, you feel pained because they’ll remind you of something — a loved one you lost or something tragic that happened to you, and the song was what you heard during the event. And the same is with motivation.
Certain songs elevate your frequency and get you recharged when your energy centers are low.
By this, I present to you the seven go-to songs that get me going when I’m feeling down with motivation.
1. Pretend — Nat King Cole
Written in 1952 by Dan Belloc, Lew Douglas, Cliff Parman, and Frank Levere.
The best-known recording, by Nat King Cole, was released by Capitol Records as catalog number 2346. It first reached the Billboard best-seller chart on January 31, 1953, and lasted 20 weeks on the chart, peaking at #3. It also reached #2 in the UK Singles Chart in May 1953, just behind Frankie Laine’s chart-topping hit, “I believe.”
As a kid born in the 80s, how would I know the song if it didn’t come across by chance or recommendation? And I’m right. This song was recommended to me by the late Bob Proctor. May his soul rest in peace.
I had the opportunity to watch one of his live webinars in 2019. And when he was talking about frequency elevation, he mentioned the song to be listened to whenever you’re feeling down because it has the power to bring on top with motivation. He was right. Whenever I have heard the song when I’m feeling down, my inspiration comes up, and I get to get things down, believing in my abilities because that’s what the theme is all about.
2. I look to you — Whitney Houston
One year into personal development and I realized I didn’t have any more time to waste; I packed my things and left Spain for Germany to pursue my dreams. I had gone to the place with no idea of anyone or did I have a clue about how things work. I went because of my belief that I didn’t have to know anyone before I moved there after my dreams.
And whipped by life and not getting what I wanted and feeling down, I went on youtube to search for some songs to refill my motivation cup. I chanced on this song by Whitney Houston, and listening to it indeed brought me hope.
So quickly downloaded it and made it one of my go-to songs for motivation each time I felt unmotivated. And the song hasn’t disappointed me since. It always reminds me that God is my source and that whenever I’m going through something emotionally, I have to turn to him. You’ll love it after listening.
2. All the see — Sonni Bali
To motivate me because I had lost my way in life due to bad friends and peer pressure and not studying to pass my high school exams to continue my education at the university to have “a good life.” And my life had become one of a drug addict, and I was struggling on the street of Takoradi, the western region of Ghana; this song became my go-to song anytime I had gone into the world to find my way, and life had beaten up.
So, whenever I was at my corner and meditating about getting my life to the next level, I’ll listen to it. And it did for me a lot of good due to the inspiration behind it. It helped me get going and never give up and taught me specific life lessons from the storyline. I still listen to it for motivation, though.
To give you a gist of it before you watch and listen to it, I want to share a bit of the lyrics for you;
All alone inna dis whole world
Many aint got story to tell no
Losing faith getting weak so we still get nothing to weep ooh
All alone inna dis whole world
Many aint got story to tell no o
Losing faith getting weak so we still get nothing to weep ooh
Lips are dry my eyes red
Can’t even find a place to rest my head
Is full of plan got to implement
Same time got to stay from incidents yes
Loking back to when i was younger
Mama and Papa keep ayanai (me)stronger
Yea son you got be independent
This world crucial you got to be independent yes
Do they know can they see all these changes that’s happening to me
Do they know can they see that aiya (I) work hard fi (to) get a thing
Now listening to the song and its inspiration, how do you feel? Empowered, right? And that’s what the theme is all about when you hear it.
4. Shine-Fia
If you’re at a crossroads, not knowing what to do, whether to keep being in the matrix or break free from it and go after your dreams, this song is for you.
I chanced on it when I found myself in a similar situation. I had to decide whether to go with the masses and keep working at ab job because I’ve got bills to pay or go after my dreams despite the uncertainties and not knowing what would happen — whether I’ll succeed.
But, the moment I heard this song, the decision became easy to make. And even after making the decision, whenever I’m not feeling like it because it’s a lonely journey full of setbacks and obstacles, I listen to the song. And when I have done that, my energies are back to full gear to keep going.
5. Budding Trees — Nahko And Medicine For The People
Discovered from the documentary heal — a film about the power of the mind, this song always wakes me up when I’m sleeping on my dreams. Whenever I’ve heard the song, it tells me I can’t let those dreams die. I need to bring them into reality, and it can do the same for you. It’s a masterpiece that awakens the soul, and you don’t want to go without listening to it.
6. Keep ya head up — Tupac
From my all-time favorite rapper, keep ya head up is a song that inspires confidence and makes you know there are still better things ahead for you in life. I listen to this song, especially when I’ve gone after a goal and failed either through rejection or not meeting the target.
This song empowers me to stay on top of my emotions instead of allowing them to have the best part of me. Released from the album; Strictly for my N.I.G.G.A.Z in 1993, with N.I.G.G.A. in the title punctuated to refer to Tupac’s backronym “Never Ignorant in Getting Goals Accomplished,” this song will refire you to keep your head when the going gets tough. I love it with the part that says, “when they let you know you’re nothing, don’t believe them.” It makes a great song for motivation.
7. Hope — Twista
Inspired by the 9/11 tragedy in America, hope featuring Faith Evans was released by Twista to express his concern on terrorism and other issues concerning the world. The rapper made the song to address some of the ills in society with the judiciary system and other institutions.
But, while that was the notion behind the song, it moved from that perspective to motivational, which has energized people to deal with things in life. So, it’s a song I’ll recommend to anyone to listen to when they’re feeling down with their emotions going after their dream. It’s a good one.
Bonus track: Find my way— Fearless soul
Found in a space where we beat ourselves up sometimes for the wrongs that we do to our souls, this song teaches you self-forgiveness and helps you amend what’s to come in your life.
It inspires you to stop being hard on yourself and be easy going forward with your life. It encourages you about the opportunities that every day brings and makes you aware that you can overcome every obstacle you face.
Music, just like words, has the power to make us better. But only when we’ve used it for the proper purposes.
And for the true purpose, these are the songs I use to recharge my batteries to get going after my dreams.
I hope it inspires and motivates you to get going, too, when you’re down.
Listen to them and let me know what you think in the comment section.
Happy goal achievements.
