7 Self Care Tips You Need To Start Doing Today To Improve Mental Clarity
I used to think self-care is about the following:
- Buying expensive skin care products
- Planning expensive trips
- Shopping things for new hobbies
These things make you feel good about yourself. They make you feel busy and spend your time on different experiences. But at some point, you realize self-care shouldn’t be expensive.
The best routines are the ones that don’t involve a lot of money. The following are some of the things you can incorporate into your daily life to help you achieve mental clarity and improve your physical energy.
Most of them are basic needs that we tend to forget in the digital age. We become so “busy” that we forget how to take care of ourselves.
Take a walk in nature
This is the best and cheapest trip anyone can take.
Most of us always want a grand vacation. We become slaves of the corporate world for us to be able to book a vacation twice a year. If you just take frequent breaks from work, you can create a life you don’t need a vacation from — cue in walks in nature.
Try walking with nature with no smartphone in your hands, no music, and just appreciate the things around you. It doesn’t only help you improve your health. It will also help you become more present. This is where you start getting ideas or have the chance to think through things that bother you. You begin to think how little your problems are compared to the world around you.
Go to the nearest peaceful place you can find. Listen to the sound of the birds chirping and the wind rustling. Feel the warmth of the sun or the cool breeze. Be aware of the smell of the trees or the ocean surrounding you.
Like magic, this will give you the energy that you need to go through the day.
Hot or cold therapy
Cold showers and hot showers have different scientific advantages.
I like taking cold showers in the morning because it helps me awaken and get ready for the day. It helps my skin feel renewed and my hair feels fresh.
At night, I like taking hot showers because it helps me keep calm. This gives me get a night of better sleep.
Get 8 hours of sleep
If you always snooze your alarm clock in the morning, it’s probably your body’s way of telling you that you need more rest.
If you try to get 8 hours of sleep every day, your body will get used to waking up after that amount of time. You don’t need any sort of alarm clock because you will wake up naturally. Isn’t that the best feeling in the world?
Sounds easy but difficult to implement. It takes self-discipline to help you sleep on time. It helps to always go to bed at the same time. As mentioned in the previous point, hot showers help. No screen time at least 30 minutes before bed also gives you superior sleep.
Meditation
There are different kinds of meditation: gratitude, calmness, manifestation, and many more.
For any area in your life that you want to improve, meditation can help. It helps you become more focused, present, and think clearly. It is also the easiest thing that you can incorporate into your life because it can take as little as one minute.
There’s a reason why all successful people practice meditation.
Social media detox
Too much social media consumption clutters your mind.
It creates pleasure and you keep going back to it every time you need entertainment. Most of the time, you don’t need it but you still want it. When you give yourself a social media detox, you give yourself the chance to do other things. You don’t rely on it for entertainment or pleasure.
So give yourself a social media detox once in a while.
Reading
Remind yourself every day that you are lucky to have access to almost all the information you want.
Years ago, your grandparents had to go to the library and look through tons of books to find the information that they need. Even then, the choices are still very limited.
Today, you can easily find everything on google.
You have the chance to read every day. Do this for a few minutes to know about different topics and perspectives, especially if you no longer go to school. Learning should never stop. Don’t consume too much information from the media. Instead, read about classics and topics that will challenge the way you think.
Journalling
Remind yourself who you are and what you want to become by journalling.
When you read and socialize with your coworkers, friends, or family, it is easy to just be like them and forget who you are.
When you journal, you can write your thoughts and just be with yourself. Your thoughts don’t get distracted by people around you. You start to realize why you feel some things and your journal will be a documentation of your growth as a person.
To End
“Clear thinker” is a better compliment than smart.
— Naval Ravikant
Happiness is a by-product of a healthy mind and a calm soul. When you know how to take care of your mental health, you unconsciously work towards a happy life.
