7 Profitable Writing Tips to Make More Money Than Someone With A $56,557 Writing Degree
Having a degree in writing is really impressive.
But does that guarantee a consistent income where you can become financially free?
Not if you don’t apply yourself.
In this post I will outline 8 profitable writing tips to help you earn more income than somebody with a $50,000 degree.
Let’s get straight into the meat and potatoes of it…
1. Spend at least 25% of your writing time on the headline and the hook
Seriously, the hook is probably the most important part of your writing.
Think about it for a second.
Nobody will care how good your writing actually is if you can’t convince them to read it to begin with.
2. Solve people’s problems with tangible outcomes like numbers
For example, if your offer within your writing is to help somebody lose weight and gain muscle, think for a minute what you can provide within that body text.
Your title won’t be:
“Here’s how to lose fat and gain muscle.”
Your title will be something like:
“Here’s how to lose 20 pounds of fat in 8 weeks without tracking your calorie intake.”
You see how we’ve solved that particular problem through numeracy?
Of course, tailor this to what you can actually provide, not just pie in the sky results.
3. Read more. Watch more. Intake more content.
If you want to write about quality content, increasing your cultural awareness will allow you to defeat your competition.
If you have an interesting life where you partake in a lot of outdoor activities, you are going to have way more to write about that somebody who stays indoors playing video games.
This goes without saying but consume more fiction, non fiction and movies to increase your knowledge, and do what you love doing!
4. Be personal with your writing
Creating a personal connection through writing involves making the reader feel like the content is tailored just for them.
To help with this, start using words like ‘you’ when addressing the reader.
Example: “This is how you can achieve fat loss.”
It makes the reader feel like you are talking directly to them, solving their problems via numbers like we spoke about before.
This is the success formula.
5. Use your drafts to your advantage
Every time you consume an article on Medium that you love or did successful, you should be making notes in your drafts.
Get inspired, see what works and replicate it. You don’t always have to reinvent the wheel with your writing.
Already on my first three days on the platform I have posted 18 times. Yes, you heard that right, 18.
I have almost 50 drafts with hooks and headlines that I have been editing and chopping up.
Adopt this mentality going forward to increase your earnings.
6. Focus on editing as much as you do writing
You writing will include a lot of mistakes, especially on your first draft. At the end of our process of scribbling all over our article, it is time to chop and change.
You never edit as you go along, just express all of your ideas onto the page and then go from there.
You should write first and then edit afterwards.
7. Don’t forget to have fun
Making money online is awesome, addicting and rewarding.
But never forget to write because you love it. I have posted for 500+ days on social media and really dialled in on the way I communicate and the format of my text.
I love every second of it, and that’s what makes making more even more sweeter.
I hope this post helped you in some way.
