7 of the Most Useful Life Hacks for 2024

Ingenious ideas I’m implementing today

Not a Medium member? No problem, read the full article here.

As we start the second month of 2024 (Yes, the second month already!), I want to share with you some ingenious life hacks that I came across in my LinkedIn feed.

Here are 7 of the most useful lifehacks I’ve come across in a long time!

1. The HALT Method for Making Decisions

Before making an important decision ask yourself these 4 things: Am I

Hungry

Angry

Lonely

Tired?

If you answered “yes” to any of them, Halt before making the decision.

2. Need to Improve a Relationship?

Send the person in question this message:

“What can I do to be a better ______ to you?” (brother, spouse, lover, neighbor)

This takes the pressure off of them and shifts it back to you.

3. Be “Selectively Ignorant”

Ignore topics that drain your attention.

Unfollow people that drain your energy.

Abandon projects that drain your time.

This one is my favorite.

You can’t keep up with it all. Make a graph of the projects that you’re working on and rate them in time consumed/energy needed vs. outcome you perceive. If the energy is high and the outcome low — nix the project.

An example might be changing the color theme on a personal blog or portfolio site. While it might offer a slight aesthetic variation, you may spend hours on it and it typically has little impact on the overall outcome, engagement, or functionality of the website.

4. Practice “Positive Gossip”

Make a habit of praising people when they are not around.

I’ve heard that when you talk positively about a person who is not in the room, the person you’re talking to attributes those characteristics to none other than you!

5. Focus on “Keystone Habits.”

Exercise, reading, sleeping well. By building on good habits, you improve other areas of your life.

This one is especially hard for me.

6. Make a “NOT-To-Do” List

Knowing what not to do can be equally important as knowing what to do.

Make a list of your 5 to 10 biggest time-wasters so that you are aware of them. Then avoid them at all costs.

7. Use “Inversion Thinking”

Rather than focus on the actions required for success, consider what would lead to failure — and avoid it.

For example, so many of us Medium writers are making pennies for our sweat-drawn articles. But quitting would most definitely lead to failure. So keep it up Mediumites! We can make it as long as we don’t weaken!

Are you going to try any of these life hacks in 2024?

I want to buy you a coffee. First giveaway is February 14, 2024! Today’s the last day!
