7 Of The Most Extreme Human Experiments Ever
As humans, it makes us think, are we humans when people do these types of things, and we keep ourselves quiet.
1. The Tuskegee Syphilis Study:
One of the most horrifying human experiments happened in the United States between 1932 and 1972. In this study, researchers lied to African-American men in Alabama. They told them they were receiving treatment for “bad blood” when, in fact, they were not treated at all. The men had syphilis, a dangerous disease, and were left untreated to study its effects. Many suffered severe health problems, and some died because of this cruel experiment.
2. Unit 731 in Japan:
During World War II, Japan conducted gruesome experiments in Unit 731. They used prisoners of war as guinea pigs. Scientists did things like infecting people with diseases like anthrax and dissecting them while still alive. It was a horrifying chapter in history, and many innocent lives were lost.
3. Nazi Experiments:
Under the Nazi regime in Germany, many inhumane experiments took place during World War II. One of the most famous doctors, Josef Mengele, conducted cruel experiments on prisoners in Auschwitz. He experimented on twins, injecting them with chemicals and performing painful surgeries without anesthesia. These experiments caused immense suffering and death.
4. Guatemala Syphilis Study:
In the 1940s, the U.S. government conducted another unethical study in Guatemala. Researchers deliberately infected Guatemalan prisoners, soldiers, and even mental patients with syphilis and other diseases without their consent. Many people became seriously ill, and some died due to these experiments.
5. The Stanford Prison Experiment:
In the early 1970s, an experiment at Stanford University turned into a nightmare. It aimed to study the psychological effects of being a prisoner or guard. College students were assigned to be either prisoners or guards in a simulated prison. The study had to be stopped after six days because the guards became cruel and abusive, and the prisoners suffered severe emotional distress.
6. North Korean Biological Weapons Tests:
North Korea is known to have conducted experiments involving biological weapons on prisoners. Prisoners were exposed to deadly diseases like anthrax and plague in these experiments. Many of these prisoners died in agonizing pain.
7. Lobotomies:
In the mid-20th century, a medical procedure called a lobotomy was used to treat mental illness. This procedure involved cutting into the brain to remove or damage brain tissue. It was often performed without informed consent and had severe side effects, including personality changes and loss of cognitive abilities.
