7 Lessons From Interviewing 100s of The Top 1 % of People In the World
The major takeaways from the productivity expert Ali Abdal that should be taught at school

YouTube is one of the best free sources of education. Much better than the rigid and obsolete traditional education we get in the school system.
And one of my favorite YT channels is Ali Abdal. He is an ex-doctor turned top productivity expert and YouTuber.
Traditional education teaches us more about how to obey the system than any skills in the real world.
I spent 21 of my best years (including my Ph.D.) on education. And after years of sacrifice and commitment, I realized I was completely unprepared for real life.
I have learned more from Youtube and by becoming an online creator than during all those years of traditional education. I had to unlearn what I knew and learn again what is essential to survive and thrive.
In this article, I will share with you seven life lessons schools didn’t teach you based on an Ali Abdaal YouTube video.
The Action Mindset
Many of us have been taught in school to aim for perfection and avoid taking risks on tests and assignments. However, this mindset can hold us back in real-life situations. The action mentality prioritizes action over overthinking and preparation.
Even if you make mistakes, focus on reaching your goals. This mentality will help you achieve your goals faster. If you’re trapped in a loop of overthinking and planning, remember that taking action is frequently the greatest way to succeed.
The Ignorance Tax Paydown
The Ignorance Tax Paydown is a concept that suggests that our lack of knowledge and skills can hold us back from earning a higher income. You probably don’t make $10 million annually because you don’t know how. Fortunately, investing in your education and developing new skills can change this.
Focus on learning instead of making money. Courses, seminars, conferences, publications, and mentors may help. Investing in yourself and learning new talents may boost your earnings and financial success.
The Self-Care Formula
Self-care is often associated with rest and relaxation, but sometimes taking action is the best form of self-care. In real life, finishing a task or solving an issue may reduce tension and boost confidence, especially for stressful activities.
You can clear your thoughts by doing these things. This approach should be balanced with rest and awareness of your limits. Finding the appropriate balance between action and relaxation may produce a self-care formula that works for you and promotes well-being.
The Best First Job
When it comes to finding your first job, many schools and career counselors may push you toward larger corporations. However, working for smaller companies might teach you essential skills. For instance, working at a smaller company may allow you to study accounting while managing funds.
Additionally, you can take on leadership roles earlier in your career, which can help you build confidence and develop management skills. Also, working for a smaller company may provide you with recruiting expertise, which may be invaluable if you want to start your own business.
The Perfect Future Job
Choosing a future career based on prominent titles like doctor, lawyer, or engineer might be tempting. However, evaluate your career’s daily duties. Explore your field’s employment to understand your role better.
Consider work atmosphere, everyday tasks, and promotion prospects. To learn about the career, talk to existing professionals. You’ll have a higher chance of finding a job that matches your passions and fulfills you if you choose a profession more carefully.
The Personal Stock Price Boost
While school can provide a basic foundation of knowledge, it is often specific skills that make individuals valuable in the workplace and can lead to a boost in their personal stock price. Programs like Microsoft Excel or Python can boost your worth to future employers and help you do more in your work.
These skills will make you more productive and boost your professional prospects and pay. Taking courses or online tutorials to learn new skills demonstrates initiative and ambition, which employers admire. So, if you’re looking to boost your stock, consider investing time into learning new skills that will set you apart from the competition.
The Unfair Advantage
Many people believe that to be successful, you must be good at everything. However, this can lead to spreading yourself too thin and not excelling in any area. Instead, focus on mastering one money-making skill. You may become an expert in your subject and stand out by specializing.
This might offer you an unfair edge. Instead of becoming a jack-of-all-trades, focus on one area and master it. Your passion and abilities may be graphic design, coding, or marketing. Specializing will help you to become successful.
