These facts often reveal hidden truths, illuminate lesser-explored aspects of history, and challenge our preconceived notions about the past. Here are some examples of the most shocking historical lesser-known facts:
- Cleopatra was not Egyptian: Although she is often associated with Egypt, she was actually of Greek descent. She was the member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, a Greek dynasty that ruled Egypt after the conquest of Alexander the Great.

2. Ancient Rome had indoor plumbing: While the concept of indoor plumbing may seem like a modern invention, ancient Rome had a highly advanced system of aqueducts and sewage systems that provided running water and indoor plumbing for public baths, fountains, and even some private homes.
3. The Great Emu War: In 1932, Australia experienced the Great Emu War, where military forces were deployed to combat a large population of emus-damaging crops.
However, the emus proved to be highly elusive and difficult to defeat, resulting in a defeat for the military and becoming a unique footnote in Australia’s history.

6. The First ever Computer Programmer was a Woman: Ada Lovelace, was an English mathematician and writer is considered the world’s first computer programmer.
She also wrote the first algorithm for Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine, a general-purpose mechanical computer designed in the 19th century, making her a pioneer in computer programming.

7. The Greenland Vikings: It is believed that Norse Vikings established settlements in Greenland around the 10th century and survived there for several centuries.
However, these settlements mysteriously disappeared, and the exact reason for their decline and disappearance remains unknown.
