7 Essential Advice To Get Started Publishing Low Content Books On Amazon KDP

What I Learned After One Year Publishing Low Content Books

Publishing low content books on Amazon KDP has been one of the best enjoyable experiences I have embarked on. It opened the path for me to utilize and develop my creativity and create simple digital products that can be sold endlessly and bring joy to both children and their caregivers.

During my first year, I’ve tried making multiple types of low content books, such as children and adult coloring books, activity books, creative prompt journals, and simple 15-page children’s books.

If I were to start my journey on Amazon KDP today, here is the most important steps I would do to help my books rank higher and get found by customers easily.

Research

  • Dedicated at least 1–3 months of consistent research into KDP before starting. Get familiar with using Helium 10, Canva, and Amazon keyword research tool. I will go into depth about the tools and their benefits in another piece.

Publish Consistently

  • Do not expect a lot of sales in the beginning. Aim to publish consistently.
  • Create a publishing pattern, start with publishing 1–3 books good quality books per week and build on that.

Start With The Easiest

Start with lined patterned notebooks and move to themed/seasonal coloring and activity books.

Promote

  • Definitely take marketing into your own hands. Many KDP publishers will tell you that Amazon markets your book to users, but I found more success when I marketed my books on my own Facebook page, Pinterest and Twitter.

Publishing Routine

  • Create a publishing routine to hold yourself accountable for how often you publish. Cover seasonal niches as well as general niches, as these sell well throughout the year and bring in consistent income overall.

Scale Up

  • If you have the chance to write your own fiction or non-fiction book, then I highly recommend publishing it as soon as possible. You will get paid more than lined notebooks as it will convert to an ebook and payment will be per reading.
  • Don’t limit yourself, with KDP the type of books you can create are endless. The most important thing is that they provide value to your readers.

Batch Create

  • Batch creates different color variations of each design, a maximum of 2 of each design to allow users to have options.
