7 Easy side hustles for up to $700/hour
Upgrading your pay. Downgrading your effort.
We’re all looking for ways to make some extra money. However, the ugly truth is that work is often difficult, stressful, and we don’t feel the pay is worth our time.
Even after turning to freelancing, sometimes it just isn’t enough. I’ve found people on Upwork working for $5 an hour. Other higher paying side jobs require unique skill sets that take months, if not years, to learn and get good at.
If you are looking for better places to invest your time, then I have found 7 of side hustles almost anyone can get started on, one of which can pay over $700 an hour.
1. Try My UI
TryMyUI is based on UI-testing, where you are paid to test the user interface of new websites or apps. Essentially, it is similar to those reviews on Google; except you are reviewing websites and you earn actual money.
For each test, TryMyUI will pay you $10. While that may initially seem less, each test lasts only around 20 minutes.
That means you can earn approximately $30 an hour, and I’ve done the math for you: $87,600 a year (if you work 8 hours a day).
However, there likely would not be that many websites for you to test, so don’t get your hopes up on making a living with TryMyUI.
Nevertheless, it still is a rewarding side hustle that’s already better and easier than a lot of jobs on Freelancer or Upwork.
All you have to do is follow the instructions, use the website while recording your screen and voice, and provide honest feedback about your experience.
After you fill in a final written survey, submit your test, which will be cleared for payment if it is accepted. You can expect to get a payout every Friday.
In summary, TryMyUI is a rather high paying job that allows you to work comfortably at home and at your own pace, with each test taking as little as 20 minutes.
2. Vibrant Life
Vibrant Life is much like medium: a place where you can write articles. However, you are paid a fixed range for every article written.
According to several sources, you can be paid $100-$300 per article. However, Vibrant Life mainly accepts articles based on health, exercise, nutrition, and similar topics.
Note that articles should be short and concise while providing value (less than 1,000 words).
If you have experience regarding how you improved your physical or mental health, then you’d have no problem writing an article. Do your research, write in an informal, easy-to-digest style, and get paid.
Vibrant Life is the place to share your expertise on a healthy lifestyle.
3. Rev
Have you ever wondered where the captions of videos you watch come from? Rev is an example of a Speech-to-Text service, where transcriptionists and captioners do their job. Luckily, you can join in as a freelancer.
Working for Rev may sound like a boring, repetitive experience. That’s not true. Not only are you able to watch various videos, you have those weekly payouts to look forward to.
On Rev, freelancers can either be a transcriptionist or a captioner, each with a varying range of pay. However, the maximum you can make for both is $1.10 per video minute.
For the sake of simplicity, assume it takes an hour to caption a 30 minute video.
This means you have made $33 in an hour. That is enough to earn you $96,360 a year if it was a nine-to-five job, given that you work every day of the year.
Interested? Here’s the brief job descriptions.
1. Transcriptionist ($0.30-$1.10 per minute):
If you’re a transcriptionist, it’s your job to type what you hear in the audio as well as indicate who is speaking.
2. Captioner ($0.54-$1.10 per minute):
If you’re a captioner, it’s your job to type what you hear in the audio, sync it, and creatively convey sounds (e.g. when music is played, you can write “**soft music**”)
4. Cambly
Learning a new language can be challenge for many, especially for those who are giving a try at the most widely spoken language worldwide: English.
If you’re reading this, it’s highly probable one of the things you should be most confident in is fluency in the English language. If I’m right, then this side hustle is perfect for you.
Cambly is an English tutoring service that requires no prior teaching experience or certificates. You’re simply chatting with people around the world and focusing on immersing them in the English language.
There are absolutely no requirements regarding minimum work hours. You can tutor as little or as much as you want anytime in your schedule.
Moreover, it is a great educational experience as you learn about other cultures and traditions from your students. You’ll potentially pick up some experiences speaking in other languages as well.
Paid to chat
Tutors are paid weekly through PayPal for $10.20 per hour on Cambly and $12.00 per hour on Cambly Kids.
Although the pay is not as substantial as some of the other items on the list, working for Cambly is much more carefree, simple, and flexible, meanwhile bringing educational value.
If you’re looking for a learning experience with additional profit, Cambly is one of the options to consider.
Cambly is more suitable as a part-time job for teens or college students.
5. PlaytestCloud
We all have the common perception that gaming is typically a waste of time. It’s one of the main sources of procrastination, especially amongst teens.
However, you probably are unaware that you can earn money casually gaming. No, I’m not referring to making online gaming videos or streams.
On PlaytestCloud, you are paid to test games (much like TryMyUI, except with games). Don’t worry, because you don’t need to be a professional game reviewer in order to participate.
PlaytestCloud is looking for all types of gaming audiences from varying age groups and both casual and hardcore gamers.
All you have to do is record the gameplay and voice out your thoughts to help developers better understand your experience. Provide your honest feedback, and simply enjoy yourself.
Getting paid to procrastinate.
In regards to the pay, you are generally paid $9 USD for a fifteen minute test. This amount can vary depending on the duration of the gameplay, sometimes reaching as high as $13 USD.
If it was a typical nine-to-five job, payment can amount to $36 USD an hour, or $105,120 annually if you work every day of the year.
If you’re interested, you can register after you pass their qualification test (which can be retaken if failed), which aims to teach you how to playtest.
6. Go Transcript
GoTranscript is another transcription service freelancers can work for. The job is similar to Rev, and likewise it pays decently up to $0.60 per minute.
Go Transcript freelancers can earn up to $1,215 per month (this time not considering the nine-to-five scenario). It’s quite a rewarding amount for a part-time job.
Though you might be asking: Why would I work for Go Transcript at a lower pay rate when I can work solely for Rev?
You do the choosing.
The truth is, both jobs are not meant to be full time. While there are constantly projects to do on both Rev and Go Transcript, if the current deadlines do not match with your schedule, there’s nothing you can do.
Go Transcript can be an alternative when working at Rev is temporarily not an option. Additionally, sometimes you may find an easier task on one platform that you would prefer to do.
Personally, I always like to have multiple options to choose from.
Get a glimpse of the bigger picture.
This allows me to maximize my productiveness and earnings; hence why I recommend you keep Go Transcript on your list.
7. Respondent
Respondent.io is a place for you to participate in various research studies, interviews, and surveys. Essentially, it’s a survey site, but likely one of the best ones out there.
Respondent looks for people from various backgrounds and experiences, so there’s likely going to be a place for you there.
While there’s no specific job description, all you need to know is that you complete a variety of projects and are paid to do it.
Quick Disclaimer
This isn’t some sort of typical task-completing site where you get gift cards for buying something at Walmart. Nor is it a place where you watch ads for 1 cent.
Earnings
Yes, respondent is the place where you can potentially earn over $700 an hour. Projects do usually pay less, but typically you’ll find a lot that pay over at least $100 dollars for an hour of your time.
Whether if you’re a marketing director, engineer, or manager; there’s someone out there who wants your knowledge and expertise. As long as you have experience in a relevant field, you can be paid for sharing them.
Everyone is an expert at something.
Here’s a glimpse at the average payments you can receive depending on your profession:
- Software Developers: $200/hr
- Marketers: $150/hr
- Business Owners: $500/hr
- Executives: $700/hr
You earn and they learn.
In my eyes, it’s a win-win situation. Providing honest feedback, personal advice and knowledge should not be a difficult task for you.
It all boils down to the value you bring, how you can prove that you’re worth their time, and if you believe $100+/hour is worth it.
