7 Easy Productivity Strategies I Follow To Achieve Flow State

Secret to live a happy life

canva.com

Being productive is key to success in both personal and professional life.

It doesn’t require major lifestyle changes and is easy to follow in your everyday life.

These strategies worked for me because they’re easy and manageable even on busy days.

Here are seven everyday productivity strategies that you can follow to get more done in less time:

1/ Prioritize tasks for the day:

Start each day by creating a to-do list and prioritize tasks based on their importance and urgency.

This will help you focus on the most critical tasks first and ensure that you’re making progress on the most important work.

To do:

Don’t make an endless list. I am guilty of doing that.

Focus on 3–4 important things that you want to accomplish and tie them with bigger goals.

2/ Set your electronic devices on DND:

This is one of the best ways to stay focused and be in a flow state for a longer time.

Within a few days, you will realize how little you need to check your phone. Distractions can disrupt your flow and decrease productivity.

Turn off your phone, close email and social media tabs, and find a quiet place to work to eliminate distractions.

To do:

Mute or turn off notifications on your phone, laptop, social media tabs, or anything convenient for you.

Find a quieter place to get things done.

3/ Break down tasks into smaller chunks:

It’s not easy to sit for longer times when we live in a noisy world.

That work email, colleague calling to pick your brain, and friends wanting to hang out, family demands time, and amidst all that, your day is gone.

So instead block smaller time to achieve certain things.

For example, my writing routine is somewhat like this:

  • Write the outline in the morning,
  • Edit some parts in the afternoon,
  • Complete the edit in the night and schedule.

It takes me 30 minutes to finish one activity, and it blends well with my hectic workday.

And it never overwhelms me.

To do:

Whatever big tasks you have, try to break them down.

If possible, distribute it over the day as smaller goals and milestones.

The feeling of ‘finishing’ something, even if it’s just a tiny task, still feels good.

4/ Flow First:

I am side hustling with my corporate job, and my day job is very demanding with endless meetings.

So I try to write outlines of my articles before work and edit them after work. Why?

Editing for me takes longer time and it requires more focus and time.

After a day full of work and long calls, I’m usually too exhausted and may not get any creative ideas.

So that’s when I start doing the edits instead.

To do:

Do high-focus and priority tasks in the morning.

You’ll also feel a lesser workload for the day ahead of you because the hard stuff is already done.

5/ Take frequent breaks:

Taking regular breaks can increase your productivity.

It gives your brain time to rest and recharge, helping you come back to work with renewed focus and energy.

With working from home, it’s easy to blur the line between work and personal life. I

sometimes work until 6/7 PM without switching off from work.

It’s neither healthy nor productive.

To do:

I set a reminder at 5 PM to log off from work and go for a 30-minute walk. It helps me to separate two identities.

Add mini breaks to break the master wheel to feel energized and focused.

6/ Automate your life:

With so many tools and apps available, it’s easy to automate your mundane tasks.

I use Siri on my phone and Alexa to set timers, reminders, and ask them to do certain things instead of unlocking my phone and getting distracted for the next 50 minutes.

Whenever someone asks me how I can produce so much content, I always tell them my secret is automating most things so I can free up time to ideate and do what I love.

I tell them I automate it.

I schedule my tweets, LinkedIn posts, newsletter, and Medium blogs for the entire week. It helps me:

  • Stay consistent
  • Free up lots of time to ideate and enjoy life

To do:

Use tools/apps on your devices, and if you’re into creating, almost every tool gives the option to schedule your posts and articles for a month.

7/ Aim for wholesomeness:

This is something you may be tired of hearing, but it’s essential.

Your work is as important as your personal life and health.

Don’t let one thing overpower the other.

Take care of your mental and emotional well-being because it’s the core of everything you do in your life.

Some of my best suggestions are:

  • Move your body actively 3 times per week.
  • Go on an outdoor walk.
  • Start doing an 80/20 weekly meal plan.
  • Meditate or practice deep breathing for 5 minutes.

To do:

Stay active, eat wholesome food, stay hydrated, and meditate.

Good physical, mental and emotional heath is the core and it’s yours to take care of. Don’t take it for granted.

Bringing it all together:

These tips won’t cost you any money and are easy to incorporate into your life.

I have been doing them for the last 3 years.

You don’t need to start with everything.

Pick anything that aligns with your purpose, and you’ll feel less overwhelmed and a sense of accomplishment at each milestone.

I hope these easy to follow strategies helps you to get closer to your bigger goals and let you live a fulfilled and happy life.
