Road Trips Unveil the Best Coffee Spots
Care for coffee on a cliffside?

Kiva Koffeehouse in Escalante, UT was perhaps one of the more unique places we discovered during our one-week trip exploring the Big 5 National Parks across Utah.
After leaving Torrey, UT where Capital Reef National Park is located, our family took a scenic drive to Bryce Canyon National Park.
In our rented Chevy Tahoe, we found ourselves high on a mountain top taking in the gorgeous views. Dispersed throughout the mountains, there weren’t many places at all to stop.
But to our surprise and enjoyment, Kiva Koffeehouse was a welcome site and a great place to hang out on our road trip in between parks.
This nestled cliffside coffee house was unique for a few reasons.
The establishment was unlike any other coffee house. It was built by Bradshaw Bowman with the help of friends and family in 1998.
Bradshaw had the vision to embrace the southern Utah landscape and insert a coffee house that fit nicely into the beauty that already existed.
Kiva Koffeehouses’ mission (outside making a delicious cup of joe) is to provide a breath-taking setting for people to gather and connect.
It definitely delivers on ambiance.
What makes it unique is a variety of factors. The location is at the top of the list.
You only have to take a look at the picture below to get an idea of what I’m talking about.

The use of natural wildflowers and vines on the building gave it an alluring charm.
I felt as though we had found somewhere special (maybe even a little magical) that only a few had the pleasure of enjoying.
The unique detail inside this coffee house caught my eye.
True to the mountainous area, once you walked in you could see the use of stone and heavy timber inside.
There were windows all through the front with tables where you could sit down and relax for a while getting lost in what you saw both inside and outside.
There was pottery and unique jewelry pieces you could purchase from local artists. My daughter especially loved some of the necklaces.
The space felt cozy and yet open. The natural light was inviting and encouraged you to walk around to seek out the uniqueness they had to offer while you were there.

This coffee house had an impressive cappuccino.
My husband raved about the cappuccino being so smooth and satisfying.
When you ordered your coffee this wasn’t your typical American coffee shop with your grande and venti sizes.
Everything was European style with smaller sizes but brewed with perfection.
While my husband enjoyed his coffee, my kids and I indulged in their chocolate chip cookies.
Not only did the coffee house have cookies for purchase, but they had homemade muffins and pastries as well. There were even some savory breakfast plates if you were in the mood for something heartier.
It was a great mid-morning treat to break up the drive. Not to mention they had nice bathrooms, which is always a plus.
What I enjoy about road trips is the opportunity to make as many impromptu stops as you want.
Looking out the window and discovering new places is a part of the adventure.
You never know when you will have a unique experience like drinking coffee on a cliffside or enjoying a sweet treat with a view.
