6 Ways To Find Positivity Even If You’re In A Bad Mood
Smiling through it all!
Nobody’s in a good mood all of the time. And if they say they are, they’re probably faking it sometimes. Do you agree?
Too many factors in life and in the greater world get in the way of being happy and cheerful 24/7. However, when you’re in a less than smiley mood, there are many strategies for finding positivity.
Here are 6 ways to find positivity no matter what mood you’re in…
Replace “I Have To” With “I Get To”
Changing your statements from “I have to” to “I get to” is a popular strategy for appreciating your privilege to do something.
“I have to do the dishes” becomes “I get to do the dishes because I have a healthy and strong body that can endure the task.”
“I have to wake up so early for work” becomes “I get to wake up early for work because I have a job that pays me money and the ability to do my job well.”
Have Gratitude for Random Things
Look for random positives within a difficult environment. Perhaps your boss is being tough on you one day. Take a breath and think of random great things about your situation.
Maybe it’s sunny outside, you have a nice outdoor space to take a lunch break in, it’s your co-worker’s birthday soon, you have free heat or air conditioning in your office, the wi-fi is working well, someone brought bagels to work.
Find a simple small pleasure that you’re enjoying despite your boss’ attitude.
Read Something Funny
With technology, funny is literally right at your fingertips!
- Read a few stories from your favorite Medium jokester
- Search up funny shorts on social media
- Text a friend who makes you laugh
- Look at old photos that bring a smile to your face
- Heck, Google “jokes” and read some!
(Side note: I searched “funny” on Unsplash and chose the doggie picture above. It made me smile!)
Sing A Happy Tune
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands! (*clap, clap*) If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands! (*clap, clap*) If you’re happy and you know it, and you really want to show it; If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands! (*clap, clap*)
And yes, actually clap!👏
Make Your Own Happiness
Take the initiative to bring your own laughter and smiles to your environment. One way to do that is to simply think happy thoughts.
Linda Ng asks…
What are 3 happy things that happened to you in the past week?
- My teenage relative told me that he had fun during his first week at his new school.
- I had no problems renewing my license at the DMV.
- I had a tasty bowl of pho and my favorite Vietnamese sugar cane shrimp.
Linda Ng is right — it feels good to concentrate on happy things!
Watch Your Favorite Feel-Good Movie
My last strategy, though there are many more, is to keep a list of your favorite feel-good movies so that you can watch one when you’re feeling gloomy. Here are my favorites in no particular order…
- The Wedding Planner
- Grease
- The Italian Job
- Dirty Dancing (how many stories am I going to mention this in?)🕺
I’d love to hear some of your favorites!
I hope that this story brought you some happiness and positivity. In Jay-Z’s words, “May the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows.” Peace.
Here’s the Linda Ng post that inspired me…
Thank you for spending your time, hopefully 30 seconds or more, reading my story! I am grateful for your comments, highlights, claps, and engagement. Wishing you the best day ever!☀️
