Sugar addiction is a very real aspect, and many sweets lovers can suffer from such a "habit" without being aware.
Fortunately, there are ways to overcome this addiction, and the famous nutritionist Gianluca Mech offers the 6 tricks by which we can give up sugar for good. The first thing that helps us in the fight against sugar addiction is to find out what generates this acute need to consume a concentrated sweet food.
When we consume sugar, the brain releases endorphins, a substance also known as the "happiness hormone", which is why we tend to overdo it with sugar consumption. The first step in limiting sugar consumption is to replace concentrated fruit sweets with fruit. We shouldn't overdo it with fruit either, but eat a few servings of such sweeter foods as mangoes or grapes.
Dark chocolate is another great alternative to milk chocolate, which contains a much larger amount of fruit. sugar and just a little cocoa. An authentic dark chocolate contains at least 50% cocoa and offers more satiety and cuts the sweet appetite due to the strong aroma.
Chia seeds are a source of valuable nutrients such as fatty acids, omega-3s, soluble dietary fiber and some plant compounds. Chia seeds can be an absolutely delicious dessert when combined with yogurt and other fresh fruit.
Sweet potatoes are another wonderful food that is a healthy and delicious snack when we are craving carbohydrates.
Rich in fiber and a number of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium, potatoes become a source of complex carbohydrates, which give us energy for the whole day.
Prunes can successfully replace candies due to the concentrated natural fructose contained in these fruits. Dried plums are also rich in potassium, fiber and sorbitol, which helps improve constipation.
