6 Tips to Help Moms With Time Management
Making the best use of your time
Are you feeling overwhelmed with all you have to do during the day but not enough time to do it all? It’s a common problem for many of us. Especially now having to juggle household duties, working from home, and homeschooling.
Unfortunately, some of us may not be familiar with how to do some of these things, which could also add more stress. I have always had a problem with time management, and it was something I had to learn at different times in my life. Here are some helpful tips.
Track your time
Write all the things you do daily and how much time you spend doing each activity. This way, you can see what you are doing and if you are wasting your time on something you needn’t be doing.
Make a schedule
Try to plan out your days either daily or weekly at the start of the week. Whatever works best for you, but if it’s your first time doing this, then start off with baby steps. Try planning daily and every hour until you feel more comfortable. If you do your best work in the morning when you have the most energy, then schedule the tasks you find hardest then.
Meal Planning
Plan your meals for the week or even the month ahead. You don’t have to stick to it like glue, but it’s such a time saver having a general idea of what you’re cooking in the week. You can write it on the calendar or stick a weekly or monthly menu on the fridge. Make a list of all the meals you usually have in a week or month, then put them into your menu. Try adding a new recipe each time you update your menu.
Next, make a food shopping list to get the ingredients you will need for the meals. Set time aside to prep the meals and place them into containers with labels for what day is for each one. You can do it all in one day or break it down into a few days. Whatever works best for you.
Prepare the night before
Go over your planner the night before so you are aware of what has to get done the next day. You could also put out the clothes you and your children plan to wear the next day, and find anything else you might need for the day. For example any musical instruments or sports equipment.
Have a set bedtime and wake up time.
Try to bed at a reasonable time and wake up at the same time each day, as far as possible. If you can’t, try and make sure you have at least one or two early nights each week. When you go to bed early, it can help you be more productive and get more the next day. A good trick is to wake up at least half an hour before anyone else in the house. This can be used as a time for you, to meditate, journal, or do whatever you like to do to start your day.
Paying your bills and doing shopping
There are lots of ways to do your shopping and pay your bills. You can do it online or by phone, as well as by post. You can set up a weekly or fortnightly shop online to be delivered regularly, and just add to it a day or two before delivery.
Wherever possible, set up direct debits or standing orders to pay bill so you don’t have to worry about physically doing them each month. Choose the options which will leave you more time to do other, more enjoyable things.
