6 Things to do Instead of Making New Year’s Resolutions
Are you making new years resolution? Stop and do this!
The clock was about to strike 12. A new year, a new day was about to start but unlike other people, I did not make any new year resolution. Firstly, because it creates expectation and expectations hurts a lot. Secondly, it develops peer pressure where you feel that mot making the new year resolution is something bad.
So, instead of making those aimless resolutions that means nothing to anyone, let’s do something productive, let’s do something that we all can easily do and improve our life day after day.
1. Learn a new skill
Begin this year by learning a new skill. The world is getting competitive. You cannot survive on one skill. AI is all set to replace your job, so if you don’t have more than one skill, it will be challenging for you to survive.
Learn a skill that can complement your primary skill. For instance, if you’re a content writer, learn SEO. If you’re a graphic designer, learn sketching. And if you are doing a 9–5 job, why not start a side hustle to boost your income.
2. Forgive, forget and move on
Life is too short to stick with toxic people. If someone has hurt you, forgive them and move on. Understand that life is not fair. People will hurt you but don’t let them take away your peace. Forgive them and move forward in life.
Surely, it will take time and effort and struggle to move on but I know you have the power to deal with it and get out of it.

3. Train your mind to be silent
You are given two ears and tongue so that you listen more and speak less.
Develop a habit of being silent in the crowd. Observe people around you. Once you start observing people you will be able to note some amazing things. You’ll learn new things and a whole new world will open up to you.
You have no idea how much you learn about a person, just by observing and listening to them. Focus on reading their face, look directly into their eyes and you’ll learn a lot if they are truthful or not. Don’t focus on their words, see how they act around you and you will be able to judge them better.
Each day, get away from the crowd, or if you work, get alone in a room and clear your head. Stop whatever you’re doing and focus on your breathing. Inhale, exhale, and relax your mind.
“If there were a little more silence, if we all kept quiet…maybe we could understand something.” ~Federico Fellini
4. Make reading part of your life
One of the most important things you need to do is to start reading. Read books, blogs that motivate you. Read something that will help you excel in your field.
If you love this blog, feel free to get the $5 monthly subscription of Medium and read more amazing blogs every day.
5. Beat your most lethal completion
No, I am not talking about your business rival, I am talking about someone even more deadly: your version of yesterday. Yes, that is the one you need to beat. Don’t focus on anyone else. You are your greatest completion.
Find ways to improve your life and compare yourself with your previous self. If your present is better than yesterday, then it is your win. The more time you invest in training, learning, improving, the more difficult it will be for anyone to beat you.
6. Be grateful
If you’ve been reading my blogs, you might know how much I love gratitude. A single day doesn’t pass in which I don’t appreciate the life around me. From family, friends, job, and everyone that I can inspire with my writing.
There is so much in the world for which you can be grateful. Build a habit of jotting down 10 things every morning that you’re grateful for. This simple habit will turn your life around.
The sun is down, the night is up. Lessons learned. Forget the past. Focus on tomorrow. Your life is a gift. Don’t waste it on yesterday.
Every day is a brand new chance to make your present better. Go on. You’re strong. Remember, you’re unique, beautiful, smart and you can do whatever excites you.
If you want to take one thing from this year, let it be gratitude. Be grateful. Count your blessings daily. Focus on the bright side of the dark tunnel.
