6 Poems to Heal Your Mind

Life is poetry, poetry is life

Painting by Andreas Achenbach from Wikimedia

I believe that the beautiful words of poets do not reflect a romanticized version of life, they reflect what life really is.

I’ve loved poetry all my life, and even have a collection of my own poems. But for this piece I want to share with you, 6 poems to heal your mind.

Go grab a cup of tea, and open your heart to hear these words.

“Healing is an honor,

Though perhaps one wrapped in darkness,

Like a star is. “

“The ocean does not apologize for its depth

& the mountains do not seek forgiveness

for the space they take and so, neither shall I.”

-Becca Lee

“This is who I am:

The rest between two breaths

And the space between each step;

The width of the sky

And the depth of the sea;

The invisible link between you and me.”

-Jennifer Williamson

“You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body

love what it loves. Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile, the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting - over and over announcing your place in the family of things.”

-Mary Oliver

“I’ve learned a whole lot more about the light

By being open to the darkness

Than by enclosing myself in light.”

“I wish I could show you, When you are lonely or in darkness, The Astonishing Light Of your own Being.”

-Hafiz of Shiraz
