6 Goal Targets To Reduce Poverty
The United Nations has set out 6 target goals to combat poverty by 2030, outlined below:
- At least half of all men, women, and children of all ages should be out of poverty by 2030, based on national definitions of poverty.
- Achieve substantial coverage of the poor and vulnerable by 2030 through the implementation of nationally appropriate social protection systems and measures.
- The goal by 2030 is to ensure that all men and women, especially the poor and helpless, have equal access to financial services, along with access to basic services, ownership rights over land, and other forms of property.
- To allow the poor and vulnerable to build resilience to climate-related extreme events as well as other economic, social, and environmental shocks and disasters by 2030.
- Increased development cooperation is one way to ensure adequate and predictable resources are available for developing countries, particularly the world’s least developed ones. This can be achieved through the implementation of policies and programs aimed at eradicating poverty in all its forms.
- Pro-poor and gender-sensitive development strategies should be implemented at the national, provincial, and global levels to support increased investment in poverty-eradication initiatives.
Challenges
Combating poverty has been a challenge since the pandemic as this has dramatically increased the rate of global poverty at a rate of 7% in just a few months.
In addition, the Russian-Ukraine war might impact poverty rates as Ukrainians are losing their incomes and homes as they flee the war.
