There’s a right way and a wrong way to ask rich people for money online. Unfortunately, most people go about it completely wrong.

Here are a few examples of what I mean:

  1. Sending out random money requests via DMs to random people on social media accounts.
  2. Using the “tip” feature on platforms to hit up content creators for free money.
  3. Begging social media followers to send them money.

Sending me a money request via a DM gets you an automatic block. And I know many other social media users who follow the same practice. First, it’s rude and very forward. You don’t know me. You don’t know my financial circumstances. And I’m definitely not rich enough to be giving out money online!

As a content creator, I rely on tips to help support me. I have had a few really annoying instances where someone uses the tip feature so request money from me. Again, the purpose of a tip feature is to reward someone for the value they create. You don’t need to ask me for money, when I teach you how to make it yourself in my articles and guides to make money online.

Even if you’re an influencer with a lot of social media fans/followers, it doesn’t mean you should assume they want/can send you money.

How to Ask Rich People for Money Online

I’ll get to where you can solicit donations from wealthy benefactors in a moment, but first we need to cover the correct way to ask a stranger for money online.

  1. Start with a quick introduction.
  2. Explain why you need the money.
  3. Discuss how you will use the money to better yourself.
  4. Close your message with a sincere thanks for their time and consideration.

You don’t need to give a stranger your complete life story, but if you expect them to give you money, they will want to know you’re a real person. I mean, they will want to know you’re genuine, not just an online scammer or con artist.

It’s vitally important that you explain why you need the money. That way they can assess your worthiness to receive it. Remember, you aren’t entitled to anything. You must prove your case.

For example, do you need the money to pay off medical debt or student loans? Are you raising money to start a new business? Do you simply need extra cash to help you make ends meet?

Just because someone has a lot of money, it doesn’t mean they want to give it away to those who are just going to blow it. Clearly detail how using the donation will improve your life.

Finally, you need to end every money request with a sincere thank you, and show that you appreciate someone taking the time to read your message.
