52 Weeks Photography Project

The June Edition.

The June Edition of the 52 Weeks Photography Project presents four open-ended concepts for inspiration. How would I visually interpret them? Let’s see:

23. Hello from… Where have you been?

24. Old. Like dirt.

25. New To Me. Introduce me.

26. I see Red. Interpret that as you will.

So, let’s go…

23- Hello From…

Hello From… Photo by author.

I have a dear friend who collects postcards. So for many years, I mailed him a postcard from the places I visited. I would try to send him quirky scenes, or unusual designs to spice up his collection. He always appreciated my effort.

Postcards are less common nowadays. Postcard racks are becoming extinct. The selection is dismal. The colors sometimes faded from sitting there for far too long. So, for this project, I made my own.

24. Old.

It did not survive the storm and was never rebuilt. This old dock on the central coast of Chile was left to die. What remains is a beautiful collection of constantly evolving abstract shapes. It is crumbling, a piece at a time, with each passing storm.

25- New to Me

Fado music is characterized by mournful tunes and lyrics. Profoundly melancholic and infused with a sentiment of resignation, fate, and loss. One of the required components of the genre is the 12-string Portuguese guitar. I was enthralled with its sound the moment I first heard it. Developed by Portuguese luthiers based on the cittern — an instrument dating back to the Renaissance — it has a sweet sound that goes straight to the heart. For me, it was love at first sound.

26- I See Red

Cruising the back alleys of the inner city usually delivers the unexpected. This message would crack me up if it wasn’t for its sinister side. Does an addictive substance need advertising? I definitely saw red.

The July tasks are:

27. Abandoned. Show the lost and found.

28. From My Kitchen. Interpret that as you will.

29. Street Photography. Go outside to play. Just like your mama said.

30. Frame Within a Frame. Just like that…
