Summary

The undefined website features a 52-week photography project with tasks for March and April, showcasing thematic photographs and descriptions by the author.

Abstract

The March edition of the 52 Week Photography Project on the undefined website presents a series of weekly photography tasks, including "Read between the lines," "Out of Place," "The Mystery Zone," and "A movie title." Each task is accompanied by a photograph and a brief narrative that provides context and personal insight. For instance, the "Read between the lines" task includes a photo of powerlines in Vancouver, highlighting the city's film industry and the intentional preservation of overhead lines for movie sets. The "Out of Place" task features a railing that seems incongruous, while "The Mystery Zone" captures an unsettling tunnel in Chile, reflecting on its centuries-old history and the photographer's hesitance to explore further. Lastly, "A movie title" presents a photograph inspired by the film "The Social Network," prompting reflection on the impact of social media. The website also previews the April tasks, setting the stage for continued engagement with the project.

Opinions

  • The author appreciates the aesthetic and symbolic value of Vancouver's overhead powerlines, which are retained for the film industry.
  • There is a sense of unease and curiosity expressed about a mysterious tunnel in southern Chile, with the author choosing not to delve deeper into the "Mystery Zone."
  • The photograph for "A movie title" task seems to critique the pervasive influence of social media, as suggested by the question, "Have you had enough?"
  • The author uses cultural references, such as movie titles and song lyrics (Spoon, Scorsese, R.E.M), to add depth to the photography tasks and to connect with the audience on a shared cultural basis.

March Edition

The March tasks are:

10-Read between the lines- embrace the cliché. 11-Out of Place- Interpret that as you will. 12-The Mystery Zone- Like Spoon, or not. 13-A movie title- like Scorsese, or not.

10-Read between the lines

Powerline overload. Vancouver is often called Hollywood North as it attracts film companies by providing excellent talent, a variety of environments, and cost savings. Although powerlines have moved underground in most places, the city has left overhead lines in some alleys to be used as movie sets. Love them!

11-Out of Place

That railing doesn’t look right. Seems out of place.

12-The Mystery Zone

It is an eerie site in southern Chile. Centuries-old. No daylight. Strange musty odor. Feels unwelcoming. I wanted to know where this tunnel led, but I could not force myself to go any further. The mystery remains.

13-A movie title

The Social Network. The 2010, Bio/Drama follows Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg as he creates the social network site that would become known as Facebook. It would be the start of a wave of social media platforms that would change the way we communicate and interact with our social networks. At what point do we ask ourselves “Have you had enough?”

The April tasks are:

14-This Country- Like the book, or not. 15-Beheaded- A faceless portrait. 16-Pretty isn’t pretty- Like Olivia Rodrigo, or not. 17-Half a World Away- Like R.E.M, or not.
