50 Micro-Habits to Improve Your Life In 2022 Effortlessly

Massive changes don’t last. They rarely work.
New habit sprints are not sustainable.
Jim Rohn was right, “Success is a few simple disciplines, practiced every day; while failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day.”
If you want to completely change your routine or habit, start small. The only way to build lasting habits is to make them insanely easy to practice.
“Make it so easy you can’t say no,” says Leo Babauta.
Whether you want to improve your health, wealth or work, here are 100 things you can do to make life better, slowly.
- Do something you enjoy outside work (read, write, start a creative project, etc.) to build meaning and fulfilment into your schedule.
- For anything you want to complete, break it down into small manageable tasks — and tackle them one at a time.
- Exercise for just a few minutes at a time — do it at the same time to make it stick. Don’t make it a chore.
- Your thinking blindspots can sabotage your success: improve how you think by reading a few pages of great books every day.
- Remove distractions before you start deep work. It improves your focus and concentration.
- Experiencing brain fog after focused work? Give your brain quality breaks. Take a long break, go for a walk or do nothing for a few minutes between work sessions.
- Try milk alternatives? They are good for your bones in the long term. I use organic Almond for my tea and coffee.
- Drink at least a glass of water in the morning before breakfast. It helps digest and improves hydration.
- Walk to think. Many great minds use walking to take quality breaks. For a better experience, don’t use headphones or earbuds.
- If you can’t make running a habit, try sprinting once in a while — it improves blood and oxygen flow to your brain.
- Change your daily routine once in a while — put your brain to work. Mike Murdock was right, “The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.”
- Learn to listen actively. It can improve your relationships. “When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen,” says Ernest Hemingway.
- For deeper thinking, ask better questions. “Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers,”Voltaire said.
- Spend time in nature more often. Tree baths can do wonders for your brain and immune systems.
- If you are travelling for less than a mile, walk or cycle. It’s good for your mind and body.
- Create a personal playlist for your workouts: something to look forward to.
- If you want to meditate, try it for a few minutes at a time. It shouldn’t be a chore otherwise, you will stop it.
- Whatever you’ve been putting off, start it this year. Even if you commit a few minutes at a time to it, it’s worth it.
- Learn from people smarter than you: subscriber to their newsletters, blogs, podcasts, and Twitter feeds.
- Optimise your habits and routines — there’s always a better way to do what you’ve always done. Henry Ford was right, “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.”
- You are how you spend your time — measure your inputs and make sure they are still serving you.
- Get rid of clutter one day at a time. A 5-minute declutter is all it takes.
- Read more biographies — they are full of life lessons and wisdom for life.
- Wealth takes time to build. Make investing automatic. To minimise risks, choose index funds.
- Use your morning for high-value tasks. You are more active and energetic in the mornings.
- Don’t schedule important meetings first thing in the morning. Use your brain energy for tasks that get you close to the goal.
- In life, you are either paying for anything with money, time or attention. Spend your limited resources prudently. It’s a daily choice.
- Blink more often when you read on a tablet. it prevents dry eyes and reduces eye strain.
- Put your phone on airplane mode before you sleep. It reduces distractions in the morning and saves your battery.
- For creative breakthroughs, experiment more. Always be optimising. Failure is not fatal.
- Absorb a lot more than you speak. Learn from almost everyone, and you will stack skills for life.
- Not everything requires brain energy. Don’t stress over it if it doesn’t matter in the next 10 minutes, 10 months or 10 years.
- One of the best ways to learn daily is to subscribe to a few smart newsletters. They will teach you something daily.
- Make some time to think alone about your life, career and relationships. How can you improve those areas of your life?
- Don’t postpone what can be done today. Procrastination delays progress more than you think.
- Don’t buy things you don’t need just because they’re cheap or on offer. In the end, you are still spending money. It’s 100% off if you don’t spend any money.
- Get rid of clothes you haven’t worn in more than a year. It’s a start to decluttering your wardrobe. If you haven’t worn it in more than six months, chances are you will never wear it.
- Don’t stop questioning almost everything. Questions can help you develop a growth mindset.
- Don’t just consume knowledge. Apply them in your life. Or better still, learn news skills to solve specific problems — it’s called just-in-time learning.
- Learn specific skills to solve present problems. It’s one of the best ways to retain new knowledge.
- How much you move daily affects your body. How much you spend affects your pocket. How much you read impacts your brain health.
- If you rent your time for income, start an investing or creative habit that will put time back in your control in the future.
- Defend your time like your life depends on it because it does. Every no is a yes for yourself to do more good or fulfilling work. Say no unapologetically.
- The brain expands with new and better knowledge. Be selective about what you read. Focus on feeding your mind exactly what it needs to grow.
- Don’t sit all day. If you sit too long for work, stand up more often. Set an alarm to get up and move if you have to.
- Take your daily experiences, events and activities seriously. Be more present and lose yourself completely in whatever you do. Find flow in almost everything you do.
- Drink more green tea. It will improve blood flow and brain function.
- Start a productive evening routine: read a book or long essay instead of watching tv all evening or start a new hobby to help you wind down.
- Subscribe to these newsletters: Farnam Street, Wait But Why, Brain Pickings, The Maker Mind and More To That. They will change how you think and make decisions.
- For your sanity, limit notifications. They are some of the biggest distractions in life. It takes twice as long to refocus once you are distracted. I can’t stress this enough.
