5 Wonderful Benefits of Traveling
The global pandemic of Covid-19 has restricted the traveling globally, canceling thousands of foreign trips and holiday plans. Tourism-based economies are facing immense pressure due to the catastrophe, as most of the holiday destinations experience almost zero occupancy.
Since many countries record higher recovery rates compared to the infection rate of the virus, it’s a good time to resume the travel plans. Many countries have lifted the travel bans and loosed the travel restrictions as well. The risk of the virus is still in the vicinity and therefore, it’s not advised an immediate holiday travel. However, planning the next dream holiday has no restrictions and you can go ahead with planning.
During the lockdown period of nearly two months, people found it’s difficult to trap inside the homes. All of us missed the freedom enjoyed and most importantly the time of traveling. Under this circumstance, it’s worth looking at the reasons behind the people’s eagerness to travel around the globe.
Why do we travel? The first obvious answer that comes to our mind is to Enjoy! We usually enjoy a time out with family or friends, escaping from the routine busy lifestyles. Also, we love to have a little relaxation in a calm environment far away from home and home town. At the same time, we like to experience new things, which we don’t have in day today life, and keep as a souvenir.
Though the main or prominent benefit of traveling is having fun or relaxation, there are many hidden benefits too. Let’s explore the benefits of traveling as it’s good to know the things we can earn while enjoying the dream destination.
1. Meet new people
Traveling is a good way to meet new people. This may be people in our accommodation, travel guides or other tourists like us. However, it’s always nice to talk with new people who are entirely different from our upbringing.
This recalls me of a nice Italian couple we met by the beautiful beach in Pasikuda, Sri Lanka. I and my husband were in a morning walk in sunrise and we noticed that one foreign couple was following us. We two wait for a while anxiously and the old couple gave us a key. That was our room key which has dropped out from the trouser pocket unnoticed. They have followed us to give the key.
It was very nice of them to come back, just to give the keys. We thanked them and had a nice chat for a while. The old couple was on a tour to explore the world and they shared wonderful stories that we never heard. Though it was an unplanned meet up it is good to know people from a foreign country.
So, when you are on your next trip, probably after the travel restrictions, make sure to talk with new people and make your trip memorable.
2. To tick our bucket lists
We all have dreams and all of us hope that one day they will come true. My dream destination is to travel to Venice, Italy. As a little girl, I was amazed by the fact the people live in Venice travel by boats. Then onwards I always want to see it in my own eyes. Though that dream hasn’t filled yet, one day surely it will.
I’m sure you too have many dream destinations in your mind and reaching that place can be considered as a great achievement to celebrate. From this perspective, traveling is reaching a goal and help us to tick our bucket lists. It’s a self-satisficing moment and traveling is a kind of gift to us from us!
3. Travelling is Learning
Every trip is a great learning as we collect novel experiences each time. This may include good or bad experiences and both of them will teach us many lessons. During our visit to Thailand, we went to the popular Jade temple. Since there are lots of glass designs and decorations, accidentally my leg was cut by a sharper piece of glass and I was bleeding. Unfortunately, we didn’t carry any of the first-aid and not even a plaster. However, thankfully our travel guide helped to sort out.
From that day onwards to each trip, we use to carry a first aid kit. This includes all the required medicines for common sicknesses and small accidents. This is a good lesson we learned from traveling and it’s good to have first-aid where ever you go, as the accidents are inevitable.
Not only this, through traveling we learn to safeguard our possessions, manage financials, and improve our planning and management skills as well. All of them not just help for traveling but also day to day life as well.
4. Step out from the comfort zone
Home town, nearest city are familiar places to all of us. Even the county we live in is comfortable, as we know the laws, language to communicate and likely have relatives and friends around. This completely changes when we set foot to an unknown territory without any relatives or friends. This enables us to handle the stress and discover unknown while facing challenges then and there.
These challenges vary from finding a good accommodation, safe food or water and finding cheap places to go shopping, etc. By facing these challenges, we learn the basic skills to survive, and eventually, our comfort zone expands to a wider range. Through this, we are enabled to take bigger challenges in life, by improving our hidden, unutilized talents.
5. Strengthen the relationships
Travelling strengthens our relationships and keep the family together. It’s better if we can switch off our mobile phones and disconnect from the outside world during personal trips. It gives a healthy time to be close to the loved ones and experience the love we usually miss during hectic workdays.
The travel time enables us to understand each other and connect with the family which is the most important aspect of life. And also traveling can be helpful to improve the trust, show the love and care to the people we need the most. Hence, it’s important to have a day off to travel to strengthen the loving relationships and to continue a healthy family life.
Travelling has many effects on us, which goes unnoticed most of the time. It’s good to travel once in a while to take a break and discover the unknown. Hopefully, the global pandemic will come to an end shortly and the countries will loosen the travel restrictions gradually. However, it’s essential to ensure safety when traveling, as the risk of Covid-19 is still haven’t disappeared completely.
Once the world heals and it’s safe, let’s enjoy the dream travel destination, remembering all the benefits it provides. Let’s add more colors to life by meeting new people, achieving life goals, learning new things, walking out of the comfort zone, and by strengthening the relationships. So, start planning today as your dream travel destination won’t be a dream anymore!
