5 Ways You Can Better Your Life Right Now

Does modern-day stress have you feel like you are losing your mind? Do you feel like you need a change in life? Reset your mind, soul, and body by following at least some of the suggestions below, you will thank me later.
1. Take a Much Needed Vacation
Personally speaking, the part of life that has brought me the most happiness and reduced the most stress is taking vacations. There is something exhilarating about sitting beachside in a chair letting the ocean flow through your feet. Or, if you are not a beach person, refer to the photo above. There is something to be said about taking a break from reality and the constant chaos the everyday work week brings. Our body needs a break, and what better way to fulfill that than by taking a road trip or vacation. Not only will a getaway reduce stress, but it can also help you reset and clear your mind of any negativity.
“Take a break and give your soul what it needs.” -Audrey Kitching
2. Start a Written Budget
One of the main causes of stress in our society today is, you guessed it, money. The only way to overcome your stubborn ways of handling money is to start a physical written budget. It doesn't have to be anything crazy, just jot down what you make a month and write down all of your expenses and any vacations or miscellaneous activities you plan to indulge upon. You should have an idea of what you should have leftover every month. Not saving enough? Tighten your budget and cut out the stuff you don’t necessarily need.

Instead of going out and chasing that new car, or new electronic device, save. If you do this now, later in life you will be able to buy a new car, with cash. As we all know, cash is king.
3. Take a Break From Social Media

Especially in these pressing times, we could all use a break from social media. Social media has some positives, but can also be extremely toxic. Whether it’s comparing your family to other families on Facebook, comparing your body to someone else's on Instagram, or looking at the depressing news that’s trending on Twitter, a break every now and then is essential. Set out and enjoy the day outside the social media world, and worry about things you can at least try to control, like finding yourself without the influence of others.
4. Stop Watching the News Every Day

While it is very important to know what is going on in the world around us, taking a break from the news every once and a while can be beneficial. Astonishingly enough, there is a lot more bad news than good news on TV. The sad reality is that bad news often catches the interest and attention of people far more than good news does. Another depressing fact about the news is that most of the time there is nothing you can do about it. So much of it is so far out of your control it will just make you feel like a tiny fish in a large body of water. The news, regardless of the network, often tries to push or influence opinion, which is not how it should be. Everyone should be able to form and have their own opinion without letting someone else influence it. I am not saying to never turn on the news again, sometimes it is important to know what’s going on, but taking a break now and then can be very helpful to your mental health.
5. Spend Some Time Outside
Whether it is taking a walk through nature or playing a round of golf, a little bit of outdoor time never hurt anyone. Spending time outside allows you to be with other living things such as plants and birds. I’m not sure about you, but I listen to bird or forest noises every time I go to bed. There are so many different activities you can do outside. Anything and everything from having a picnic to taking your dog for a walk. One great way to get your day started is to take a walk outside. This is a quick and simple activity that will help you clear your mind for the long day ahead. There is simply something to be said about spending a few hours outside or in nature every once in a while.
“An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.”-Henry David Thoreau

Sure, there are an abundance of things you can do to better your life. This list should get you started with activities you can do right away. That’s the whole point of this list. If you can start with small activities every day, you will eventually form a habit. When you form a habit, these life bettering tasks will be like clockwork. Eventually, it will be second nature to complete activities that better your personal health, mental health, body, and soul.
