5 Ways Writers Should Leverage AI

I do not recommend this šŸ‘‡

Author’s Screenshot from a ChatGPT Prompt

This is the quickest way to lose all credibility with any readers. Anyone can do this, and what ChatGPT creates is not unique or insightful.

With that said, I believe AI is an incredible tool that should be utilized in many ways and none of them writing.

Here are five ways you can use AI to improve your online content creation without using a single AI generated word.

5 Ways To Leverage AI as a Writer

Image Creation

AI images are fantastic for quick unique visual signatures that you can create easily. ChatGPT now has Dall-E integrated into it and it works wonders. Here is an image I created just for this story

Dall-E Image: Person sitting at a desk typing away at keyboard with cybernetic arms

Here are some cool ones I’ve created for my website using Midjourney.

And here is one I created with Bing for ESL Educational purposes:

I post idioms and English expressions on Chinese social media where people will reach out to me for private online English lessons.

As you can see, AI image creating is a fantastic way to create any image and you do not need to worry about copyright violations.

It is a great tool from an SEO perspective as well. Think of it as a unique visual signatures. Look at the image search results for my article about Davy Jones for my website Merchantmarinerguide.com:

60K Impressions in 3 months from a unique Image Created In Midjourney

Its a very low click through rate but I would not have received those 80 clicks had I used stock images. It is the unique nature of the image that propelled it to the top of the image search list.

Research Assistant

I love this function of ChatGPT. My favorite plugin is ā€œWebPilotā€. It is the best performing search plugin. It can look up specific URLs, search the internet and curate the results, and provide links to sources that are current.

I do have to double check sometimes that the URL’s work because the plugin sometimes relies on the datasets from the original training of ChatGPT and the URLs do not work.

I start a conversation with ChatGPT with the plugin on. I will ask it a question like this one:

Author’s Screenshot from ChatGPT conversation

You can see in this prompt I had an idea for an article and I was gathering preliminary research on the topic. I can quickly gather these sources and read through them without getting lost in the SEO optimized sea of Affiliate blogs that hit you in the face as soon as you search anything in Google.

Proof Reader

This is what I use ChatGPT for the most. I installed Grammarly on my computer and I don’t know if my computer just sucks or if Grammarly sucks but it slowed down my old ZenBook significantly. I have since uninstalled it. I don’t see why I need it.

I write my articles in Google Doc, Copy them and past them into an ongoing conversation I have with ChatGPT. I always start the prompt with

Do Not Rewrite my words only fix Grammar and Spelling.

This is a very important element to it because if you just upload the article and say something like ā€œhelp me fix this.ā€ ChatGPT will turn it into an AI word salad that sounds clean but lacks any substance.

If you specify to not change anything and only fix the grammar and spelling it will do it quickly and effectively.

Voice to Text Editing

I go back and forth between writing my content and speaking it into existence.

When I first started using voice to text I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. That’s why I wrote this:

I have gone back to tipidy tapping away at my keys most of the time. Its what I am used to.

When I did though, I created an entire workflow that leveraged AI as the way to help me add punctuation and spelling corrections. AI is able to pick up context better than spell check software and can recognize when my southern accent and google do not hear ear to ear.

Editor and Chief

Here is where I have had some fun with ChatGPT. I like to prompt it to pretend it is the editor at a major publication.

Author’s Image Created with Dall-E in ChatGPT

I ask it to be as critical as possible of my article. I tell it to be honest if it would publish it in its current state and what it would need to change before it would publish my article.

I have found that it has some very insightful suggestions. It will point out areas where I should elaborate more, remove personal anecdotes and vice versa.

Sometimes I will ask it to create a variation that it would consider ready for publishing at its publication just to see what changes it implemented. Most of the time the changes are the same generic AI word salads.

It really loves to say Delve. It will shorten something or rearrange things in a way that make more sense.

This is a great way to get some critical feedback of my writing before it ever meets the eyes of anyone else but me.

ā€œAIā€ght Summary Time

AI is a great tool to help you streamline your online content creation without using a single AI generated word. Heres a recap of the five ways

Dall-E image edited in Canva by Author

All of these ways can help you develop better content and you do not need to resort to one click articles that ā€œdelveā€ into anything.
