5 Ways to Speed up Your Progress in Life and Pretty Anything

#1. Look at the people already doing what you want to do and do the same

Engaging in something and achieving results takes time. It doesn’t happen overnight.

There’s a process everything has to go through under the heavens to reach its final stage. It doesn’t matter; there’s no result if you don’t follow due procedures. And just like planting a seed, there’s a time to sow and a time to reap.

But, as much as we know things to be this way and are willing to comply, sometimes we can speed up the process if we emulate others who have already achieved what we aspire to achieve and adopt their ways.

Why? Because at times, what we may know to be the right way is wrong, and looking up to others for guidance is the best thing to do.

With that said, here are five easy ways to fast-track your progress in whatever you’re doing.

Step #1— Look at people already doing what you want to do and do the same

Just like writing, if I’ve gotten better, it’s because of reading and copying the style of people already in it and established—their writing style, formatting, and everything related to how they craft great stories.

The same thing applies to you, too. It doesn’t matter the field. Success leaves clues, and whatever you’re doing has been done before.

So, why not learn from those ahead of you when we all know trying to do something from scratch with little or no idea comes with stress and delays achievement?

I’ll copy the ways and techniques used by others to reach the goal. And that’s what I’ve done with my writing. I had zero ideas on how to craft stories when I started. I had no idea about formatting and everything relating to the art. But here I am today, channeling great stories to the world with a book in the making.

It couldn’t be possible without copying those already doing it.

Step#2 — Connect to as many people in your field and ask for directions

Tim Sanders made the famous quote, “Your network is your net worth.”

Why do you think he made that statement? And why do you think people use the phrase a lot, especially when it comes to achievement?

Do you think they don’t know the weight this saying carries?

They do. Let me explain it. The people you’re surrounded by affects you consciously and unconsciously. If you’re around great men, you’ll be great whether you’re aware of it or not. If you’re around shallow-minded and poor attitude men, you’ll be shallow-minded and a poor attitude person.

It’s why it’s always advisable to surround yourself with people in the same direction in life as yours. Not only that, it’s always best when those people are experienced and can give you information on how they’re doing things.

It helps a lot when you connect with these people and ask for directions because many people are willing to help you when you ask them.

We are egotistical beings, and whenever you ask someone something, the idea of teaching you arouses this feeling in them that they’re valuable. So, they won’t hesitate to help you.

The author of Your network is your net worth; Porter Gale said this concerning this habit.

“I believe that your social capital, or your ability to build a network of authentic personal and professional relationships, not your financial capital, is the most important asset in your portfolio. I believe that seeking out and working in collaboration with others who share your interests and values will provide a stronger foundation, enabling you to reach a higher level of success than you would on your own. Therefore, I believe that your ‘net worth’ will be based, not on the size of your portfolio or the size of your network, but on your ability to define and stay true to your passions and values; and that working with other people who share them will allow you to build a strong and enduring interpersonal safety net that will carry you through any financial calamity to greater output and personal fulfillment”.

Don’t underestimate the power of networking. It does magic and can help you become an achiever quickly.

In addition, whenever you’re reaching out to people, don’t underestimate yourself for not having anything worthy of them. You can ask if they need help with anything and offer to help. It’ll make them believe you’re not only interested in getting from them but are willing to grant them value, too.

Step#3 — Apply the information you’ll gather from people

Some of us don’t deserve success despite our desire to attain it. I know it’s harsh, but that’s the truth.

We reach out to people and, when by their generosity, give us information, we don’t apply it. We have become passive beings instead of proactive. We’re always acting lazy about things.

But that’s not it when it comes to success. Instead, success requires men and women of action—active and willing to be on the move.

And you reading this, how often have you not reached out to people for information and they’ve given it to you and you did nothing with it?

You’re confused. It could be I’m telling the truth about your situation. On the other hand, it could be I’m wrong. But whatever is the truth, all I’m trying to say to you is to act on the knowledge you get from people through your networking.

Don’t be lazy. Be serious with life and do the right thing to take you to the next level. Life is short, and we don’t have all the time to ourselves. You could be here today and gone tomorrow.

So why won’t you act and crush your goals and be that guy or lady?

I’ve become aware of this, and I’m not lazying around anymore. It applies to you, too.

Step#4 — Stay true to yourself

Many of us haven’t achieved our goals and dreams not because we aren’t worthy of them. It’s simply a result of not sticking to the things we say we’re going to do.

But, success in life frowns on this habit — not practicing what you preach. Most of us set goals, and we don’t do as we’ve decided. Instead, we procrastinate and stay busy with trivial things that don’t take us anywhere. You know them — binging on Netflix, engaging in friend circles, having unnecessary chats, etc. These things don’t help us achieve and become the better versions of ourselves that we know.

If you’re going to become successful and it applies to all fields, you have to be true to yourself and do what you say and know will help you.

Step#5 — Action, Action, Action

Just look at how many times I’ve repeated the above word. It means it matters most than any other thing. Forget it. You can access all the resources and connect to all the high achievers in the world. But, if you don’t act on the goals, you won’t get anywhere.

Isn’t it wonderful to know action is what separates achievers from non-achievers?

It reminds me of one phrase I heard in a Jim Rohn talk. Action pronto. And what he was saying was to act quickly when the idea is here.

The reason is that we’re at war with our minds. Whenever we say we’re going to do something and we delay, the likelihood of us postponing it is high. It’s why you must quickly act all the time without delay. Action pronto. And it’s accurate if you want to progress in the things you’ve set your mind to.

“Will you create a future? Or will you be defined by the past? Will you let the days go by in distraction? Or will you squeeze all the juice you can out of today?” — Benajamin Hardy

Final thoughts

Success in life isn’t for the faint of heart. Let me be blunt with you.

But, if you still think you deserve it and will go for it, you can’t help but do the things required to achieve it.

I’m not saying it because I heard it somewhere. I’m also on the journey. And by what I’m going through and experiencing, I won’t lie to you. It takes actual balls.

So, if you have decided, just like me, don’t play because you won’t get there without doing the right things. And in doing the right things, the things I’ve explained to you come into the picture.

Apply them and achieve or don’t do it. The ball is in your court.
