Whether it's the pressure of work deadlines family responsibilities or simply the hectic nature of life many of us struggle to find time to unwind and clear our minds. However, it is crucial for both our physical and mental well-being to set aside time each day to relax.

When we relax our bodies we can lower blood pressure, and heart rate and release tension that builds up from the stresses of life. It also helps strengthen our system improves sleep quality enhances focus and productivity and ultimately contributes to happiness.

Here are five easy yet effective ways to incorporate relaxation into your schedule:

1. Take Some Deep Breaths

One of the methods, for calming your body involves directing your attention towards your breath. By dedicating a few minutes to slowing down your breathing you activate a relaxation response, within your system.

Sit comfortably with your eyes closed and inhale deeply through your nose, feeling your belly expand. Hold this breath for a few counts. Then exhale slowly out through pursed lips while mentally scanning your body for areas of tension.

Repeat for at least a few minutes whenever you need on-the-spot relaxation.

2. Go for a Quick Walk

Getting moving is a great way to get tension out of your body, stimulate feel-good endorphins, and give your mind a break from overthinking. Even just taking a 10–15 minute stroll around your neighborhood or office building boosts your circulation while relaxing tight muscles.

Let the beautiful melodies and tones massage away any stress or anxiety you’re carrying in your body. Cafe-style jazz or classical music works wonderfully to relax the mind. Nature sounds like ocean waves, rainfall or birdsong also deeply relax the nervous system.

4. Do Some Light Stretching

When we feel anxious or stressed, tension builds up in our muscles, especially the shoulders, neck, jaw, and lower back. Doing some gentle stretching helps relax our body by releasing those tight areas that contribute to feeling uptight.
