While the world remains immersed in the pandemic, now is the time to invest in yourself. With life slowing down, this gives way for an opportunity for growth, which will allow us to feel joy with the work we do.

Here are five ways to inspire professional happiness while in quarantine:

Indulge In a Passion Project

Do you have a bucket list project that you’ve always wanted to complete but haven’t had the time? Before the COVID-19 pandemic, it was very difficult to find time to plot and plan passion projects. Now we devote free time to our passions.

The pandemic has allowed me the ability to devote more time to my writing. I will celebrate my 34th birthday this year. A birthday is an opportunity to set goals for the year ahead. Having had the gift of time has given me the chance to focus on my writing.

Learn a New Skill

It‘s hard to find the time to devote to professional development. The benefit of being stuck at home is being afforded the opportunity of time. This is a great opportunity to continue your education.

Instead of binging the latest television show, consider streaming online courses. Find an influencer you respect in the field you work in.

I’ve had a blast relaxing on the couch learning the art of negotiation from FBI legend Chris Voss. And learning the art of creativity from Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein of GS&P.

The world is our classroom and we won’t stop learning something until the day we die. Education is a gift and we should strive to continue learning and expanding our minds.

Meditate

There is a lot of stress in the world right now. If you have never meditated before, now is the perfect time to start. A lot of noise can create havoc in the mind. If the mind is drowning with worry, then our personal and professional growth will be limited.

Meditation offers the ability to gain clarity. It can also help with concentration. This is beneficial, as many people cope with trying to balance home life and working remotely.

Along with minimizing stress, a 2018 study published in the American Journal of Medicine found that people who meditate are often more satisfied with their job. Being satisfied also gives us the ability to feel like we have a purpose in our careers.

Take Breaks

Maintaining a schedule is crucial to the balance of our happiness. This is especially true while working remotely in the midst of a pandemic. Work and life balance are even more important now than ever before. The temptations are too strong to continue working beyond the typical 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. job.

A refreshed mind is a happy mind. By creating a daily schedule, you can maintain a healthy work-life balance. Allowing ourselves to rejuvenate affords us an opportunity for happiness. We are fulfilled with the purpose of our work and are not overwhelmed by our workflow.

Network

Being stuck at home doesn’t mean that you do not meet with people that share your professional interests.

Staying connected is easier than it ever has been before. We now can reach out to someone at work through an e-mail or text. From there, you can easily meet up via FaceTime or through Zoom.

Quarantine is a great time to reach out to someone through LinkedIn. Perhaps there is an opportunity to collaborate through your shared experiences. Or collaborate through an independent project.

This is the time to enjoy the ability to nourish your professional well-being. Especially while the world waits to open back up again.

Even though being stuck at home can frustrate, the moment is fleeting. For a period, we could devote so much to our personal and professional growth. It’s an opportunity I hope everyone takes advantage of.
