5 Ways to Feel Prosperous
When you are feeling anything but
During these difficult times, it’s in your best interest to stay positive to attract good things to yourself. Changing your negative expectations will help you receive the blessings you deserve in life.
At one time I wasn’t receiving any blessings at all. A victim and a whiner, I drowned in the dark side of everything and barely survived with my poverty mindset.
One day I found myself frantically scrounging to find coins to purchase my cheap burger and fries. I dug deep in my messy purse to find a quarter. A long line of cars idled behind me.
When someone is so desperate that they’re paying in coins, you know they’re having problems. All I found were pennies. I hated keeping people waiting. A horn blared from behind and made me jump.
I rifled frantically through the compartments in my car, hunting down that elusive quarter. To my great relief, it finally appeared. Then the true fun began. Now I had to endure the humiliation of handing a cashier a handful of change.
“Sorry,” I said.
“No problem,” he said, meticulously counting every single coin. This was not my finest moment. I’d sunk to the lowest of the low.
For a long time afterward, I struggled to stay afloat. What I didn’t realize back then, is that it’s almost impossible to attract wealth when you have a poverty mindset.
To live in a state of abundance, you need to rise from the bleak world of fear and despair and settle into a zone of positive expectation that will attract good things to you. When we’re in that place of positive expectation, we feel prosperous. We become more aware of the possibilities and opportunities that arise before us.
The fear of poverty can keep a person frozen with fear. It’s hard to function when you are terrified that you will lose your home or your car. This prevents you from taking the needed action to fix your finances. In a negative state of mind, opportunities will still come to you, but you won’t even see them.
The good news is there is hope for you. It’s not too late to cease focusing on your bad situation and do these 5 things to feel prosperous.
1. Surround yourself with signs of prosperity
Deposit money in savings every time you’re paid. Every small amount adds up. For example, depositing $40 in the bank twice a month ( or $20 every week) will add more than a thousand dollars to your savings by the year’s end. With the funds directly deposited from your paycheck into your bank account, you won’t even miss the money. It’s difficult to feel poor when you’re saving money. Don’t make the mistake of extending yourself on credit. It will only sabotage your efforts.
2. Give to others.
Every single time I’ve helped others, I’ve prospered. When I volunteered to help my church and play piano for free, people began to offer me paying gigs. When I gave a friend fresh tomatoes, she returned the favor and brought over fresh eggs. When I gave money to the poor, my husband received an unexpected raise.
Some of the most prosperous people I know give from the heart. They were givers before they became successful, not the other way around. What you give out to the world comes back to you.
3. Treat Yourself
Treat yourself to small luxuries. Buy quality clothing on sale. Save money for a manicure. Pick fresh flowers to arrange in your house. Eat healthier fresh produce instead of canned. Barter services with friends. (You mow their lawn, they give you a haircut.)
Always look your best each day to attract better things to yourself. Dress as nice as you can on your budget.
Save up for a used car that you love. Not the practical boring car, the car that you bought for an amazing deal, that makes you feel prosperous driving it.
4. Let go of junk so you can find treasures.
Sometimes you have so much stuff lying around, the treasures in your home remain hidden. Sort through all the junk and toss, sell, or give the items away. You could sell some of your stuff to pay the debt. You’ll feel great, making others happy by providing items they desperately need.
Or simply experience the joy of living in a neater home from all your effort.
In my case, every time I remove clutter from my home, I find an item I thought I’d lost forever.
5. Carry around signs of prosperity with you
Always carry around a wad of bills in your wallet. Seeing cash on you will create the mindset that you always have what you need.
Write a check out to yourself for a million dollars. Don’t cash it and keep it where you can see it. Believe someday that you’ll be able to cash it. Before long your subconscious will give you ideas on how to increase your wealth and make it happen.
This is what actor Jim Carrey did. He wrote himself a check for ten million dollars in 1985 and tucked it in his wallet. He specified that the check was his payment for acting dated ten years in the future. Ten years later, in 1995, he was cast in a movie that paid him ten million dollars.
Could this merely be a coincidence?
Thinking prosperous thoughts has benefited me in my own life. Ever since I started saving money, I’ve always had a balance in my account. Even five dollars a week will give you $260 dollars in your pocket at the end of a year. You can spare five dollars.
Hope these five ways to feel prosperous will help you too.
