5 Ways Creative Writing Can Help Improve Your Mood

Writing can be a great way to express yourself, and it has been shown to be very beneficial for mental health. Stress and Anxiety
If you’re feeling stressed or anxious-and who’s not today?-writing can be a great way to deal with those feelings. It can help you understand what you’re feeling, and it can also be a way to release that tension. It can also help you see which activities improve your anxiety.
The story I wrote while facing my grief helped me to examine other parts of my life that I didn’t realize were still creating anxiety. I watched as my protagonist battled his monsters and grew along with him.

If you can’t go to the beach, create an island world in your head and write about it. If the kids are driving you crazy, write a story about sending them on a field trip to the moon. With all the billionaires competing to make space a travel destination, you’ll soon be able to send them.
Creative writing can also provide a distraction from negative thoughts and emotions, giving you a break from the gloom inside your head. If you have a mental illness like me, there’s a lot of darkness to get away from.
Whether you’re writing fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, the act of putting words on paper (or screen) can be incredibly therapeutic. So if you’re feeling down, stressed out, or anxious, try picking up a pen (or opening up a word processor) and letting your thoughts flow. You never know what might happen when you start writing!
