5 Top Tips to Battle Ageing
Check out #2: how to beat wrinkles and creases.
As a much younger woman, I took my health and my looks for granted. I was never pretty but considered myself attractive enough.
In recent years, the ageing process has been conspiring against me. These are my top tips for fighting back.
1. If you value your eyebrows, never over pluck them or allow anyone else to.
I made the mistake of trusting a beautician to shape my brows. She went too far and they never grew back. Eyebrows frame a face and they are a big deal these days.
I still find it strange that all the hair you’d like to grow on your brow doesn’t. But you can guarantee all the untidy ones will multiply.
My experience is to not get tweezer happy and pluck from the top of the brow because they won’t ever grow back right and you’re left with more straggly hairs to attend to regularly.
The best advice is to leave your brows alone until they grow so long you have to trim them. This happened to me at the age of fifty-three. Yours might get unruly sooner or later.
When your brows do get out of hand, use a fine-tooth comb or a clean mascara brush to brush your brow hairs downwards. Then, holding the comb steady, trim them using sharp nails scissors. You’ll be amazed by the results.
A quick tip on nostril hairs, if you pluck them you leave yourself open to infection. Trim those nose hairs. I usually know it’s time when the tip of my nose starts tickling. A ten-times magnifying mirror is very handy if your eyesight isn’t what it used to be.

2. Wrinkles are not a girl’s (or a guy’s ) best friend.
Genes, moisturiser and or a healthy lifestyle and a diet full of antioxidants (vegetables) prevent wrinkles. Look at your father if you take after him (I do), and decide whether or not you’ll be lucky as you age or don’t risk it and moisturise daily.
Maybe I got lucky with my dad’s genes, as he looked 10 to 20 years younger than he was for most of his life. He never drank or smoked. He ate well and exercised regularly.
I drank and smoked, and ate atrociously for decades. I also didn’t do as much exercise as I should have. But I did moisturise and always have!
Also, you might be too young to appreciate this tip, but sleeping on your side can cause creases on your chest. When you age, the creases don’t go away. you can train yourself to sleep on your back or on your front. It’s not easy at first but I’ve been doing it for two years now. No creases!
3. Strength training is invaluable to your health and your physique.
The image above is not me. I have never looked that toned.
“you’re as tough as you think you are, and you can exert as much self-control as you think you can.” ― Michael Matthews, Thinner Leaner Stronger: The Simple Science of Building the Ultimate Female Body
I was inspired by Michael Matthews book. You don’t have to work that hard. Do as much bodyweight resistance training as you can at home, in the gym or walking up hills to keep those thighs in shape. They’re the biggest muscles and burn the most calories.
Try squats. Here’s a great 30-day challenge. I made it to day 28 in August 2019 and was chuffed.
To build my thigh and other muscles in the first place, I did CrossFit for eighteen months. I strengthened my back, developed abs, and could eat heartily and not put on weight. It was time well spent then and I still feel strong.
4. If you have to have something sweet make it fruit.
Sugar is like mind-blowing sex. The more sex or sugar you have the more you want. Cut down your consumption of or cut out sugar.
Energetic intercourse is great for burning calories. More sugar will pile on extra fat if you aren’t active enough to burn the energy.
Make a deal with yourself. If you want chocolate or a cake, you have to do the exercise first.
I don’t keep anything naughty in the house. If I am craving empty calories and nothing else will do — ladies you know what I mean — I make myself walk the long way round to the supermarket to pick the sweet treat of my choice.
5. Drink water!
Hydrate with a minimum 2 litres a day to make sure your wrinkles and creases are well plumped, plus a lovely cup of chamomile tea in the evening to aid sleep.
Take care of yourself and battle against ageing.
These five top tips have become my habits. I hope you can make use of them and make them part of your life, whatever your age. Of course, if you are still young, you won’t need to worry too much about the wild brow and nose hairs. But if you don’t want wrinkles you know what to do!
