5 Things You Can Get From Failure that You May Never Get from Success
When failure becomes valuable
Everyone loves a success story and we have so much admiration for world-renowned successful people.
We want to associate with the successful and be successful in all we do at every step of the way and in the process, we hope to completely alienate ourselves from failure and its stings forgetting that failure is in fact the road to success.
It is okay not to like failure. But we must learn never to be afraid of it. If you are too scared to fail, you won’t achieve much because you will be too scared to try.
It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default. J. K Rowling
If you are not failing, it can only mean that you are not trying. It means you are in a state of complacency and content. You have no goal you are seeking to achieve.
But if you have a goal, reasonable and achievable but way above your current standards. Well, Chances are you are going to fail your way through to success.
Although failure is hurtful and undesirable, we have to admit that it is inevitable if you hope to achieve beyond the status quo and attain standards and results ordinarily beyond your capacity.
Nobody wants to fail in life.
The feeling that comes with failure is not great. I don't enjoy failure and I believe you most certainly do not enjoy failure either. However, getting used to the mindset that failure is not an enemy is a solid step on the path of success.
The hurt and frustration associated with failure make it so tagged as bad and unwanted. It, therefore, is surprising that failure has its good benefits.
Hold on, do you actually believe that failure can be of any importance? Or does this perspective surprise you. Let’s go through these benefits and you decide…
1)Failure teaches you personal life lessons
They say experience is the greatest teacher. That quote modified would be experiencing failure is the greatest teacher for success. The lessons gotten from mentors and teachers are great. Lessons gotten from experiences of others are helpful, but nothing sinks deeper than lessons learned from personal experiences. It's a lesson that sticks forever.
2)Failure helps you gain mastery
If you are failing at something you so desperately want to get right. It means you will keep coming back to try again, and each time you fail, you learn methods that don't work and build your skills and tactics. Failure and persistence births mastery.
3)Your past failures encourages others.
Someday when you have broken through the thick resistance and have succeeded. Others hear the stories of your failures and struggles and they are encouraged that they too can find a way out as you did.
4)Failure builds your character and teaches you compassion
Failure being negative and harsh will take you through a roller coaster of emotions ranging from frustration to worthlessness to more frustration. If at such points in your life you hold on to values and not vent it at others, then your character has been forged through fire and unburnt. If you have ever failed at something in the past, let's say you succeeded now and you see young ones failing at it. You are naturally moved to want to help. Because you truly understand their deepest frustration and the awesome thing is, you are very likely to be able to help them out.
5) Failure teaches you confidence eventually.
If you already failed at a quest once or twice, good. Observe how your focus shifts from fearing failure to bagging success. You were afraid of the pain and hurt, now you have felt it, what more can fail to do to you? Nothing, its time to win. Experiencing failure at a thing already can give you a sense of confidence.
Have you ever failed at anything? For how long? Did you learn from the failure? Have you found a breakthrough? Did you have to quit? Are you still at it? How are you handling the stress of failing?
Let's assume you are in some sort of failure at the moment or you just got out of a terrible setback and you feel horrible and the benefits mentioned above piss you off more than it encourages you because all you want is to succeed and you will choose the benefits of success over benefits of failure like every human I know would.
At least take this home, if you can’t pay attention and you just don’t vibe at the moment,
