5 Things That Are Free but Offers Priceless Results
Use them to be and feel better
Modern life can often fool us by making us believe that there are so many things that we need and so we must work hard to afford it all.
Anyone over thirty can surely recall a time in the past where we didn’t have most of the “luxuries” that we now see as essential, like iPhones, Internet, half-dozen streaming subscriptions, a second car, etc.
We had none of these back then, and yet we managed to be happy. In some cases, happier.
Of course, times evolve, and I’m not saying that some of the now so-called “essentials” aren’t, in fact, essential for our modern way of living. The Internet is an excellent example of this, as it is hard to imagine a life without an internet connection nowadays, and all the benefits that it brings in terms of knowledge, education, and opportunities.
But we know that most of these things, responsible for big chunks of our expenses, were planted in our lives under a false idea of necessity.
It is what it is, and I’m not here to preach minimalism to that extent, but I believe this modern life came along with another problem besides consumerism.
In a world where the rule is to spend more and more so we may keep up with the Joneses, we tend to ignore the value of free things because they don’t have a price tag attached.
I was lucky enough to be in permanent contact with some of these things during my entire life, and for that reason, I’m still aware of them.
Here is a list of the five free things that bring more value to my life.
- The Sun The exact amount of time varies depending on factors like age, location, time of the day, skin exposure, etc., but 15 to 60 minutes of sunbaths will usually be enough for your daily dose of vitamin D that your body needs. It will also recharge your batteries and make you look and feel better.
- The Ocean I understand that not everyone has the chance to visit the ocean regularly, but I live in a town by the sea and bathing in the cold waters of the Atlantic is one of my favorite activities. The ocean can clean your bad energies and wash your problems away.
- Fresh Air It may not be accessible to everyone, but if you can visit natural spaces where the air is clean, do take advantage of that gift. Fill your lungs with that fresh air, and feel your blood running through your veins, oxygenation every cell of your body. It will give you a calmness that will make you look at your problems and causes of stress differently, in a more transparent way, maybe allowing you to realize that there are solutions after all.
- Silence It’s often hard to get a moment of quiet in our busy lives. Even when we’re not busy working or dealing with our everyday problems, we look for things to occupy our minds, usually in the form of entertainment. There is a time for that, but enjoying moments of silence and allow your mind to rest is also crucial. Appreciate the quietness, take a break from the constant input of data into your brain, let it rest and organize your thoughts, it will make you more receptive to new ideas, and it will release some stress from your mind.
- Love Love is free. Expensive gifts and fancy dinners are lovely, but that’s not what love is about. Love takes commitment and time, but it brings meaning to our lives; after all, that should be our ultimate goal; to love and to be loved. For this, you don’t need money; you only need a good heart.
I’m not a monk, and I don’t preach a life free of possessions.
Having comfort is good, owning some unnecessary luxuries and having experiences makes life more enjoyable. Still, these free things bring so much value to our lives that not using them is something we can’t afford, so it’s incomprehensive why so many of us don’t take advantage of them more often.
All these things make me feel better and get me closer to the person I want to be. They are natural and free, and Nature usually knows how to make things work, so if you’re not regularly using these resources, you’re passing on a great opportunity, so give them a chance and enjoy!
