I found this question online today – What are things that people were making fun of 20 years ago but it is seriously real now? Suddenly, it caught my attention, prompting me to start thinking like you do right now.
Any guesses what are some of the most common things today that seriously real but people were joking about or making fun of 2 decades ago?

After thinking and searching for a bit, I found many of them, but here in this article I am going to list the top 5 I think worth mentioning.
1. Online Dating
In the last 20 years, dating has changed a lot because of the internet. Now, instead of meeting people in person, many folks use websites and apps to find love. For instance: Tinder, Bumble and much more. It’s like a huge online world where you can meet lots of different people from anywhere. You just need to use your phone or computer to connect with them. This new way of dating has made it easier for everyone to meet someone special, and it’s all about swiping and using computer programs to help find the right match.
2. Crocs
People’s opinions about Crocs have changed a lot. At first, many thought they were weird and not stylish. But now, lots of people love them for being comfy and practical. Crocs have become popular for their comfort and come in many colors and styles. They’ve gone from being laughed at to being seen as cool and trendy by many.
3. The name “YouTube”
When YouTube first came out in 2005 I thought it was incredibly stupid name. Well, now its world’s most visited website which ranked #1 on daily traffic and users.
Exactly 20 years go February 18, 2004 this article on The Onion came out.
The discovery of razors with five blades was a joke first and then suddenly it became big deal! It meant that shaving could be even smoother and faster. People were amazed at how well these new razors worked compared to the old ones with fewer blades. It made shaving a lot easier and left skin feeling really smooth. It was like a small but exciting revolution in the world of grooming lol. I might be little exaggerated here, but yeah it is something!
5. Six dollars hamburgers
Inflation is real! I am pretty sure people noticing it in 2024. Price for everything skyrocketed in 2023 and 2023.
Back then, you could get a burger for a lot cheaper than you can now. As per Google results showing in 2004 you could get a hamburger for $1 or less. Prices have gone up because of things like inflation and changes in the cost of ingredients.
Hope all these 5 things make sense. There are many more poping in my head right now while writing this. I will get them covered on another article in near future.
