5 Things Jen Sincero Can Teach Us About Making More Money
Stop saying you are broke and start attracting more money into your life

Have you ever wondered how the heck those people make money so easily? It seems like money is just coming on their way meanwhile you look at your bank account and it barely survives before the upcoming paycheck arrives.
If you feel like you have an unhealthy complicated relationship with money, trust me, you aren’t the only one. I myself included but I’m grateful enough to find this book from Jen Sincero that taught me all things about money and how to make more of it.
Her book “You Are a Badass at Making Money” has changed my life and million other people in so many ways. My mindsets and how I see money is no longer the same as 2 years ago and as a result, I earn more than I’ve ever been in the past year.
So here are the 5 things you need to do if you want to make more money and finally enjoy your life to the fullest:
1. Let Go of Your Old Limiting Beliefs
We all have some limiting beliefs whether we realize it or not. But if you want to make lots of money, first you need to reevaluate your old beliefs and create new ones.
“One of the biggest obstacles to making lots of money is not a lack of good ideas, or opportunities or time, or that we are too slovenly or stupid, it’s that we refuse to give ourselves permission to become rich.” — Jen Sincero
So it’s clear that the one thing that holds us back from getting what we want is ourselves. If you think about it, there are lots of negative perceptions from our society when we say we want to be “rich”, people judge us badly for it yet somehow complaining of being broke sounds more normal.
Jen in her book also mentioned that “a healthy desire for wealth is not greed, it’s a desire for life.” which also means that you should be the one who decides what you want in your life, not other people — no matter how “bad” people will judge you for it.
How to apply it:
Before you even start to work your ass off to make lots of money, first you need to change your mindset into a healthier accepting one when it comes to money. Based on her book, Jen highly recommended us to write down a list of all the reasons why you deserve to be rich in the first place and how having lots of them will benefits you and others.
2. Get out of Your Comfort Zone
We heard about this one advice all the time but how many of us actually follow it through and take an action?
Putting ourselves out there can be super scary but this work needs to be done if you want to reach financial freedom. Staying in a 9–5 job that doesn’t fulfill you, makes you feel nothing other than misery and annoyance is not the best way to live your life. You certainly don’t want to settle with such life — I don't.
“Our “realities” are make-believe — whatever we make ourselves believe, we experience.” — Jen Sincero
This quote makes a whole lot of sense because most of the time we wouldn’t believe something if we haven’t experienced it and to adopt a new belief that hasn’t happened in front of us yet, is a really hard thing to do.
How to apply it:
People will usually think that we have to drop everything in our lives significantly in order to “get out of the comfort zone”. Yes, some changes are absolutely needed but you really don’t have to sell your house or cut down all of the expenses to the point where you starve to death.
Change is hard. So it’s recommended to choose one thing at a time. Let’s say you want to increase your earning, instead of getting overwhelmed with all kinds of different ideas that you have, try to stick with one that interests you the most and put all of your energy into making it happen. Don’t forget to add the deadline and move on to another one once you figured it doesn’t work out.
3. Get Clear with Your Mindset About Money
Most people have complicated relationships when it comes to money. Admittedly I still work on myself to change my negative mindset. Growing up in a small village with a lack of money, it’s hard to have a healthy relationship with money. But I know I have to change it and make peace with money instead of fighting against it.
“When we don’t master our minds, we risk building our lives on a foundation of flimsiness.” — Jen Sincero
Jen Sincero has also proved that shifting your mindset about money and get clear with it, it’ll let you see the opportunities you’ve never seen before. Sometimes when we are so caught up with our own problems and negative thoughts, we tend to overlook the best things that life has offered. Some people realize it down the line, the others just don't because they get too busy with their negative perspectives on money.
How to apply it:
To see your perspectives about money in a clear way, first, you need to write all of them down on a piece of paper and ask yourself questions whether it’s true or not.
Then you can reframe the words into more uplifting and positives ones. If you do this long enough, your mindset will begin to shift and your life starts to change for the better.
4. Watch out the Words You Say to Yourself
The words that come out from us mean a whole lot more than we like to think sometimes. You may not realize that it can affect what you have in life, but it really does. So that’s why being aware of what you say on daily basis can help you notice which words need to be reframed.
“What comes out of your mouth comes into your life.” — Jen Sincero
Jen said in the book that we repeat certain words often enough, it’s gonna start to sink in, and eventually, we’ll believe them. Therefore, it’s important to use the right words if you want to make more money. If you keep saying you are broke and you can’t afford certain things, then you’ll never be able to.
How to apply it:
In February I got laid off due to the pandemic and at that time I really liked the job. I told myself, “this is it, I’m gonna settle down for this job forever!”. So you can imagine how crushed I was when I found out when I lost it. Not to mention at that time it’s the highest-paid job that I’ve ever had.
2 months later I landed a job that pays double than my last one and I’m a 100% this isn’t a coincidence. It took lots of inner work and kept a positive mindset along the way.
So if you want to level up your life financially, start changing the words that you usually use around money. Instead of “money is so hard to get” you can change it with “I deserve money and it’s coming to me easily and freely”. Say this again and again until you start believing in it.
5. Step into the Unknown and Trust the Process
Don’t you like that feeling where you have so many controls over something? Trust me, I do too. We all want to feel like we know where exactly we are heading and that everything has to work as we planned.
But unfortunately, life doesn’t work this way. Especially when it comes to money, when you are always on the side that’s blaming money whenever things don’t work out, you won’t get very far.
“We all have the ability, through our thoughts, to harness the power of the Universe.” — Jen Sincero
To make more money, you need to take risks and be okay with not knowing what’s out there. Trust the process that the universe (or whatever you want to call it) has your back — no matter how clueless you are at the moment.
How to apply it:
The truth about being surrender and stepping into the unknown can be scary but also liberating at the same time. If you don’t know where to start, try to sit in silence and get really in tune with yourself. Practice affirmations words and instead of stressing out because you don’t know the next 10 steps to reach your goal, try to focus on the first step only and do your best at it.
Final Thoughts:
There are certainly ways that you can do to make more money and have more freedom:
- Let go of your old limiting beliefs because they are the ones that hold you back
- Get out of your comfort zone and don’t afraid to take a risk
- Watch out the words you say to yourself especially when it comes to money
- Get clear with your mindset around money and how it has affected your life so far
- Trust the process and know that the universe will always have your back
