5 Things I Wish I Had Done When I Was In College

Make sure you do them if you are in college

I graduated from college in May 2017. After graduating, I worked for a year and came to the United States in 2018 for post-graduation.

It has been 5 years since I graduated from college and I still think I could have done a lot of things differently.

In this article, I will talk about the 5 things I wish I had done in college:

Prioritize sleeping

I had a horrible sleep schedule in my undergrad. I used to go to bed around 2 am and wake up at 8 am. Although 6 hours is not a bad sleep, the timing was the worst part. Sleeping at 2 am destroyed my energy levels.

I wish I had woken up earlier in the morning and exercised. I did not focus on my health at all.

Now I am doing well. I prioritize my sleep. I go to bed at 10 am and wake up at 6 am. My energy levels are better than ever.

Work harder

Although I did good in my courses, I wish I had worked harder. Particularly in my first year, I only studied the night before my exams. My grades suffered because of this.

I was enjoying the freedom and did not think about the consequences. I realized my mistake and worked hard in my junior and senior years.

Learn coding

I chose chemical engineering as my major in college. Chemical engineering courses did not involve extensive coding.

So I never got the chance to learn coding. I took a course in Python in my first year but I performed poorly. After that, I thought coding was not meant for me.

So I did not actively learned coding. Now I feel like I should have learned it. Coding is an essential skill and every college student should know basic coding.

Extracurricular activities

I was I had remained active outside studies. I only studied and hung out with my friends in college.

I wish I had developed other skills. I wish I had joined a college sports team. I wish I had learned a musical instrument. I wish I had joined clubs like the dance club or drama club.

Extracurricular activities are important for the development of our personality and I am sad that I missed on that.

Road trips

I wish I had done more road trips with my friends. I did a couple of them (maybe 5) but I should have done more.

Road trips are fun. You create a special bond with your friends and you get a chance to move away from the daily routine. You get the chance to experience nature.

Make sure you do all those things if you are still in college. College is a wonderful experience.
