5 Things Dying People Regret Most
…and what we can learn from it
I recently read a book that moved me and inspired me to reconsider many aspects of my life. I would like to share these regrets paired with my thoughts on them. They will surely make you think as well.
What do dying people regret the most and what can we learn from it so that we can look back on our lives without regrets at the end of our days?
1. “I wish I had dared to live my own life”
Often, certain things are expected of us. Our family and our society force us into certain directions in our lives that deep in our hearts we may not want to go.
I know it from my own experience. My parents want me to be safe and healthy and have a secure, good income later on. But is that really the right path if my dreams fall by the wayside in the process, dreams that I’ll be mourning at the end of my life?

2. “I wish I had not worked so much”
Of course, it is important to be successful and earn money. Especially if you have a family, you have a responsibility. But let’s be honest: What really counts at the end of the day? I think it’s the moments with people that are most important to us. Later, when I have a family, I don’t want to miss my son’s first soccer game, for example. No matter how much money I could earn in the meantime. That’s easy to say now. Hopefully, I’ll still feel the same way in a few years. Remember, work isn’t everything. You can’t get back special moments with your loved ones that you missed.
3. “I wish I had dared to express my feelings”
We far too rarely tell the people around us how we feel. It would probably make our parents and siblings so happy if we told them more often that we love them. Even though we know this, we do it far too rarely. I am certainly guilty of this. This is also important in love. Countless people have lost the love of their life, or the chance of a future together with them, because they could not express their feelings. Let us express what we feel.
4. “I wish I had kept in touch with my friends”
I can understand this regret very well. After all, the book has moved me to call two close friends while reading. After school and in other phases of our lives, we often part ways with our friends. No matter how stressful our daily lives are, there are probably a few things we should never neglect. Our friends are definitely one of them.
5. “I wish I had allowed myself to be happier”
We are constantly thinking about our goals, problems, and things we have to do. We often forget that our life is happening right now and we can’t get the time back. Why are we still more aware of the beautiful moments, are more present, and allow ourselves to be happy?
Key Takeaways:
I live much more consciously after this book. I will try to learn from the regrets of others to get the best out of my life. Follow me and read the book. It will change your life for the better!
